NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile vs Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs vs NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (Desktop)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile

► remove from comparison NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 Mobile

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 for laptops (GN20-S7) is a fast mid-range gaming graphics card for laptops. The RTX 2050 is based on the modern Ampere GA107 chip (like the RTX 3050) which is manufactured on an 8nm Samsung process (8N). Compared to the similar GeForce MX570, the RTX2050 offers Raytracing and DLSS support.

Compared to the old Geforce RTX 2060 Mobile, the 2050 offers more shaders (2,048) but a greatly reduced memory bus (64 Bit). It is available in different versions with with TGPs ranging from 30 to 45 Watt. The maximum boost clock ranges from 1155 to 1477 MHz. It features up to 4 GB GDDR6 graphics memory (14 Gbps leading to 112 GB/s max throughput).

The gaming performance of the mobile RTX 2050 should be clearly lower than the RTX 2060 thanks to the greatly reduced graphics memory bus. First benchmarks position a fast version slightly above a GeForce GTX 1650 and on the same level of a GeForce MX570. However, games that support DLSS can offer clear performance advantages thanks to the Tensor cores.

Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs

► remove from comparison Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs

The Intel Xe Graphics G7 (Tiger-Lake U GPU with 96 EUs) is a integrated graphics card in the high end Tiger-Lake U CPUs (15 - 28 Watt). It is using the new Xe architecture (Gen12) and was introduced in September 2020. The GPU clocks with a base clock speed (guaranteed) of 400 MHz in all CPUs and can boost up to 1340 MHz (i7-1185G7). The slowest variant offers only 1100 MHz boost (i5-1130G7, 12 Watt TDP).

The performance depends on the TDP settings of the laptop and the used cooling. First informations show that the chip can be configured at 12 and 28 Watt TDP default (as the Ice Lake-U chips) and the performance should be around a dedicated GeForce MX350 in 3DMark benchmarks. For gaming we are expecting a bit worse performance due to the missing dedicated graphics memory and driver support. Many games e.g. had problems when testing the various laptops (e.g. Horizon Zero Dawn or Cyberpunk 2077 did not start or were crashing - see list below). Less demanding games like the Mass Effect Legendary Edition ran in medium settings fine. Compared to the older Ice Lake Iris Plus G7 GPU, the new Tiger Lake GPU should be approximately twice as fast. Therefore, the iGPU is still only for lowest graphical settings and low resolutions in demanding games.

The Tiger Lake SoCs and therefore the integrated GPU are manufactured in the modern 10nm+ (10nm SuperFin) process (improved 10nm process) at Intel and therefore should offer a very good efficiency.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (Desktop)

► remove from comparison NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (Desktop)

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti is the fastest consumer desktop graphics card in 2018 and the fastest Turing RTX card at launch. It offers 4,352 shaders, 11 GB GDDR6 with a 352 bit interface (14 GHz, 616 GB/s for the Founders Edition). Furthermore, the 2080Ti includes 544 Tensor cores and 68 raytracing cores.

Features

NVIDIA manufacturers the TU102 chip on a 12 nm FinFET process and includes features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Real-Time Ray Tracing (RTRT), which should combine to create more realistic lighting effects than older GPUs based on the company's Pascal architecture (if the games supports it). The RTX 2080 Ti is also DisplayPort 1.4 ready, while there is also support for HDMI 2.0b, HDR, Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and H.265 video en/decoding (PlayReady 3.0).

Performance

The gaming performance of the 2080 Ti is around 27% faster than a RTX 2080 in 4K and around 35% faster than a GTX 1080 Ti. Therefore, the 2080 Ti is capable of max settings in 4K for all current AAA games. Adding raytracing may however reduce the performance below 60 fps.

Power Requirements

NVIDIA estimates that the RTX 2080 Ti should consume a maximum of 250 W or 260 W for the Founders Edition, which is  on a level with the GTX 1080 Ti (250 Watt).
