Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit - Wall Street Canyon in review: Advanced mini PC with Intel Core i7-1260P for high versatility
Intel has updated its compact NUC mini PC series with the new Alder Lake-P SoCs. The name "Wall Street Canyon" signifies the latest model series based on the modern SoCs. There are two base configurations, which differ in terms of their dimensions. The slightly higher-end model carries the "Tall" moniker, which indicates the option for an additional 2.5-inch drive. By contrast, our "Slim" test device does not offer this option. In terms of the price, about 100 USD separates the two variants. Both devices are only able as a barebone. Thus, users will have to install the RAM and storage themselves.
For our testing, we installed two 8-GB DDR4-3200 modules and a 512-GB SSD in our test sample. The latest available version of Windows 11 Professional at the time of this review serves as the operating system.

Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit im Detail
Case
Visually, the Wall Street Canyon is very obviously an Intel NUC. The exterior design of the device is very subtle and there are no glossy surfaces anywhere on the system. Although the bottom of the case consists of metal, doubling as a cooling solution for the storage, a noticeable portion of the NUC consists of plastic. The device has a robust metal frame, which has almost become standard on the compact Intel NUCs and provides the PC with the necessary rigidity. With a height of just 37 mm (~1.46 in), our Slim version is quite small. Furthermore, the device does not take up a lot of space on a desk due to its small footprint of 11.7 x 11.2 cm (~4.61 x 4.41 in). Alternatively, it can be attached to a monitor with the included VESA mount.
Connectivity
The Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit offers all the most common options in terms of the port selection. There are four USB type-A and two USB type-C ports. The type-C ports support USB4 speeds. The two Thunderbolt interfaces also vastly increase the flexibility of the system. The wide range of available accessories is almost endless. Finally, there are two HDMI ports and a 2.5G Ethernet port.
Communication
On the NUC 12 Pro Kit, Intel's own Wi-Fi 6E AX211 module is used for wireless networking. It performs well in our testing. Regardless, it does not quite the transfer rates we were hoping for when sending data. The Morefine S600-Apex achieves significantly better results with the same module. We used our reference router Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 for this test.
Accessories
Aside from the device itself, the package includes the 120-watt AC adapter and a plate for VESA mounting.
Maintenance
Like all compact Intel NUCs, the NUC 12 Pro Kit allows for quick and easy maintenance via the bottom of the device. The bottom cover is fixed by four small screws and doubles as a cooler for the SSDs. Once inside, accessing the RAM and SSD slots is very straightforward.
Performance - Core i7 with 12 Cores
Compact PCs are becoming more and more powerful, as users working with the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit will quickly realize. At the heart of the system, there is a 12-core CPU with 16 threads, making the compact system an excellent choice for demanding tasks.
Testing Conditions
We performed all benchmarks using the balanced power profile. We did not modify the CPU performance settings and left everything on auto in the BIOS settings.
Processor
With the Intel Core i7-1260P, the Intel NUC 12 Pro kit includes a very recent SoC. Thanks to its 12 physical cores and a total of 16 threads, the Intel Core i7-1260p is a solid choice even for demanding users. It is rated for a burst TDP (PL2) of 64 watts and a continuous TDP (PL1) of 40 watts. Compared to its competitors, the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit performs very well. Among its compact PC competitors, only the Morefine S600-Apex is able to achieve a slightly better overall score. A 14 percent deficit compared to an Intel Core i5-12600K is still not particularly large. This further illustrates just how well this mobile SoC is able to perform.

Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit - Wall Street Canyon vs. Cinebench R15 Multi Loop
We get our first glimpse into the efficiency of the integrated cooling solution in our Cinebench R15 loop. The maximum Turbo is only active during the first loop with performance dropping off significantly during the second run. The scores dip by about 10 percent. There are no major fluctuations during the remainder of the test and the average total score is 1702 points.
System Performance
Unfortunately, the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit is not able to seamlessly transition its good CPU benchmark scores into good synthetic benchmark scores. Disregarding the Intel Core i5-12600K, it only places third in PCMark 10. By contrast, Crossmark once again appears to favor our test device and restores the old performance hierarchy. Similarly, we observe above-average transfer rates compared to other mini PCs in the RAM tests.

Storage Solution
Our test sample of the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit supports up to two M.2 SSDs. However, users will have to pay attention to the form factor. While the primary NVMe-M.2 slot only supports 80mm SSDs, the secondary M.2 slot only accepts shorter 42mm SSDs.
We use a Transcend SSD and RAM from our hardware stock. The SSD performance is solid. However, other devices in our comparison are equipped with faster SSDs. The importance of these results should not be overestimated, since users will be able to install an SSD of their choice in the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit barebone.
