Schenker Work 17 laptop in review: Large screen and a colorful keyboard
Powerful hardware that comes with many customizable features is probably the core concept behind Schenker laptops. The German manufacturer offers laptops that meet every requirement. The Work 17 is an office laptop that comes with many options for memory and storage. There are also various keyboard layouts available, and the warranty period can be set to two or three years.
Our review sample is equipped with 32 GB of RAM, Intel Core i7-11370H and 1 TB NVMe SSD. Without Windows license, this configuration is around 1,470 Euros. The most affordable configuration currently available is around 1,180 Euros (~$1,273).
Large-format office laptops are rare nowadays, so the LG Gram 17 and the Acer Aspire 5 are among the contenders. If you prefer something smaller, the Schenker Work 15 could be an alternative.
Update 17.04.: We repeated the battery test in Performance Mode with the new BIOS. All details are available in the section regarding Battery Life.

Case and connectivity - Sturdy aluminum and many ports
With black aluminum for the display lid and bottom cover, as well as black plastic for the top of the base unit including the keyboard and touchpad, the Schenker Work 17 is visually quite discreet. Nonetheless, a glance at the screen reveals the extremely narrow display bezel. It's only 6 mm wide.
Apart from the somewhat modest looks, the laptop has a high-quality build, and it's very robust in all areas. Despite its size, the screen can hardly be twisted, and the same is all the more true for the base unit.
Thanks to Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, LAN, and a microSD card reader, the Schenker Work 17 is almost completely equipped in terms of connectivity. Both the Intel Wi-Fi AX 201 and the microSD card reader work at high speeds here.
The webcam is of the typical low quality found in laptop webcams. Besides the Kensington lock slot, the security features of the Intel Core i7-11370H are also available.

The bottom cover can be easily lifted off by removing the screws. This reveals the upgradable RAM, a free M.2 SSD slot, and a replaceable WLAN module. A lot of things are modular in the Schenker Work 17. This should make minor repairs and maintenance tasks easy.
Input devices - RBG keyboard meets huge ClickPad
The Schenker Work 17's keyboard provides a strong haptic feedback. In addition, the key travel of almost 2 mm makes sure that the keyboard is pleasing. The touchpad is large at 15 cm x 9 cm, and its surface is even and smooth.
The keyboard's RGB lighting might seem a bit unusual at first. But it turns out that the color selection allows for a comfortable and glare-free use that lacks blue light, which is especially useful at night.
Display - Also cuts a fine figure outdoors
The bright IPS display of the Schenker Work 17 isn't perfect in terms of color-space coverage and contrast ratio, but it's good. A 93.9% RGB color-space coverage is more than sufficient for an office laptop. The display's brightness of 390.3 cd/m² on average is also quite high, which allows for good readability most of the time, despite the fact that the brightness distribution isn't particularly even here. At times, bright spots in all four corners can be seen with the naked eye, despite the good 1,029:1 contrast ratio.

* ... smaller is better
According to the CalMan ColorChecker, the Schenker Work 17 comes with a relatively accurate color reproduction out of the box including a low average ΔΕ of only 2.5. Using the ICC profile we created (download in the info box), both the absolute and average color deviations drop to a level that is barely perceptible. There aren't any noticeably deviating colors here. After all, only slight shifts in the values of the RGB solid colors are what cause the sRGB color space not to be covered by 100%.

In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8747 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
The matte display reveals another strength in outdoor use as well. As long as the sun is not directly reflected off the panel, the bright screen can always be read well. There are hardly any differences except for the brightness when viewed from all possible angles.
Performance - Strong hardware for office work
With an Intel Core i7-11370H, 32 GB of RAM, and a fast Samsung 980 Pro with 1 TB of storage, our review sample almost represents Schenker's best possible configuration. The various other configurations here allow for between 8 and 64 GB of RAM and up to 8 TB of hard drive storage.
Test conditions
Schenker's Control Center offers plenty of settings to adjust performance. The benchmarks were run in the Entertainment Mode, which offers a good balance between fan volume, energy efficiency, and performance. As a result, a PL2 of 42 watts and a PL1 of around 22 watts are available for the Intel Core i7. Depending on the application and location, the PL1 values in Entertainment Mode are sometimes significantly adjusted upwards or downwards. In the stress test, even values of only 16 watts were observed.
In Performance mode, the PL1 is increased to up to 35 watts, but that also drastically increases the core temperatures. In most benchmarks where the processor isn't under prolonged load, there is hardly any difference between Performance Mode and Entertainment Mode. The processor's Boost performance is just as good in both.
We already compared Performance Mode and Entertainment Mode in the review of the Schenker Work 15. Since both laptops hardly differ from each other in terms of hardware, the results should be quite similar here.
Processor
With a high boost performance and good temperature efficiency, the Intel Core i7-11370H is particularly suitable for slim laptops with high performance requirements with its four cores. Depending on the performance mode, the processor sometimes displays a below-average computing performance in longer tests, but it can score points during short load peaks in particular and in single-core operation. In Performance Mode, the PL1 is at a constant 35 watts, while it fluctuates between 22 watts and 16 watts in Entertainment Mode.
On battery power, the processor's performance is restricted to some extent. Again, the laptop's performance control has different values depending on the energy-saving plan. In Performance Mode, the log analysis shows that the PL1 is adjusted to 35 watts, while the processor is only supplied with 25 watts in reality.
