Review: HP Elitebook 8540w Notebook (ATI M5800)
Intel Core i5-520M | ATI FirePro M5800 | 15.60" | 2.9 kg
The AMD ATI FirePro M5800 is a upper middle class mobile workstation graphics card with DirectX 11 support. It is based on the Madison chip (Mobility Radeon HD 5600/5700 series). Using certified drivers, the OpenGL performance of the M5800 should be significantly better than compareable consumer 5700 cards.
Depending on the used graphics memory (DDR3-GDDR5), the M5800 should perform somewhere between a Quadro FX 880M and FX 1800M.
As the Mobility Radeon HD 5700 series, the FirePro M5800 supports Avivo HD to decode HD videos using the GPU, Eyefinity for up to 6 monitors (if DisplayPorts are present in the laptop) and DirectCompute / OpenCL.
Up to now the card only appeared in the HP Elitebook 8540w mobile workstation (15.6") with 1GB DDR3 graphics memory and clock rates similar to the HD 5730.
