The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (codename GN21-X2) is a mid-range laptop GPU. It is based on the AD107 chip and uses the Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4050 Laptop offers 2560 shaders and uses 6 GB GDDR6 dedicated graphics memory with a clock speed of 16 Gbps (effective) and a 96 Bit memory bus. The TGP (Total Graphics Power) can be configured between 35 and 115 Watt (+ 10-25 Watt Dynamic Boost from the CPU) leading to different performance levels. The boost clock depends on the TGP settings and ranges from 1605 MHz (35 Watt) to 2370 MHz (115 Watt). The performance therefore is also highly depending on the laptop and TDP settings.

In our benchmarks, the RTX 4050 stays slightly behind the older mobile RTX 3060 but is clearly faster than the mobile RTX 3050 Ti. Therefore, it is best suited for 1920x1080 gaming at high to ultra settings depending on the game (see benchmarks below).

The RTX 4050 offers 80 tensor cores and therefore supports DLSS 3 including frame generation that can have a big impact in supported games. The raytracing cores however will see less usage, as the RTX 4050 does not offer enough performance for high detail settings and raytracing in demanding games.

The AD107 chip is manufactured in 5nm at TSMC (4N process).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (Codename GN21-X4) is an high-end laptop GPU. It is based on the AD107 chip and uses the Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4060 Laptop offers 3072 shaders and uses 8 GB GDDR6 dedicated graphics memory with a clock speed of 16 Gbps (effective) and a 128 Bit memory bus. The TGP (Total Graphics Power) can be configured between 35 and 115 Watt (+ 15-25 Watt Dynamic Boost from the CPU) leading to different performance levels. The boost clock speed ranges from 1470 MHz (at 35 Watt TGP) up to 2370 MHz (115W).

The performance in synthetical benchmarks of an average RTX 4060 is between a mobile RTX 3070 and a mobile RTX 3070 Ti. GPUs with lower power limit (e.g. 45 Watt variants) are ranking clearly lower (75% lower performance in some reviews). The average gaming performance of the RTX 4060 mobile is ideal for highest settings in 1920x1080 for demanding games. Less demanding games can easily run in QHD (like Baldurs Gate 3). See below for detailed benchmarks of our reviews. Enabling DLSS in supported games, can highly improve the framerate.

The RTX 4060 offers 80 tensor cores (4th gen) that enable DLSS 3 including frame generation for supported games. The 20 raytracing cores (4rd gen) on the other hand, will see less use as the RTX 4060 is not that powerful for demanding games to enable raytracing (other than in low resolutions).

The AD107 chip is manufactured in 5nm at TSMC (4N process).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (Codename GN21-X6) is a high-end laptop GPU. It is based on the AD106 chip and use the Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4070 offers 4,608 cores (of the 7,680 in the AD106) and a 128 Bit memory bus. The RTX 4070 mobile uses 8 GB GDDR6 dedicated graphics memory with a clock speed of 16 Gbps (effective). The TGP (Total Graphics Power) can be configured between 35 and 115 Watt (+ 15-25 Watt Dynamic Boost from the CPU) leading to different performance levels (the desktop RTX 4070 Ti uses 285 Watt for comparisons). The boost clock speed ranges from 1230 MHz (at 35 Watt TGP) up to 2175 MHz (115W). Therefore, the performance is also depending a lot on the power setting used for the RTX 4080 mobile in the laptop.

The performance should be below the desktop RTX 4070 Ti and therefore best suited for 2k and maximum details for demanding games of 2022.

Our synthetic benchmarks of an average RTX 4070 mobile show a performance slightly below a mobile RTX 3080 Ti. However, with reduced power limits, the performance is clearly suffering, e.g. only 70% in Time Spy for a version with 60W TDP. In games, a fast RTX 4070 is best suited for QHD gaming, where some very demanding games wont reach the 60 fps limit (and may have to run at 1080p, reduced settings or using DLSS). The RTX 4070 offers 144 tensor cores (4th gen) that enable DLSS 3 including frame generation for supported games. Furthermore, 36 raytracing cores (4rd gen) can be used for raytracing effects in supported games.
