Technology
Even if the technical framework is not quite up to date, the graphics of Yakuza: Like a Dragon make a more than solid impression by RPG standards - at least from high settings. On the positive side, the well-designed (main) characters are worth mentioning, which can score with sharp textures and a lot of attention to detail. However, we would describe the staging as the greatest strength. Thus the extensive story is driven forward with all kinds of high-quality video sequences.

The only negative thing we noticed during the short play session was the controls. With mouse and keyboard the figures don't move as smoothly as in other titles. The developers could also tweak the distance display a bit. Especially at lower quality levels, distant objects look quite muddy or pop up relatively late.
Speaking of settings: For a console port, Like a Dragon offers surprisingly many setting options. In addition to the resolution, the graphics menu also allows changes to the picture mode, the display frequency, the field of view and the FPS limit. A V-Sync function is also available. Most of the settings are hidden in the extended submenu, which contains more than 10 adjustment screws, which can be controlled comfortably by Graphics Quality. Attention: In lower levels the game automatically reduces the Render Scale, which results in a more blurred image. For our speed measurements we set this option to the maximum value of 100.

By the way, the different settings are explained in a text field, whereby the explanations are often very short and therefore of limited help for less experienced users. Meanwhile, there is praise for the fact that all changes are applied without a restart. With a size of 45 GB, Like a Dragon doesn't take up too much space on the hard disk when compared to other 2020 games. In addition, the loading times are pleasingly short. A small note for owners of Optimus notebooks: Despite the latest driver, Yakuza on some laptops only started with the Nvidia chip when we manually assigned the GeForce GPU to the game in the Nvidia control panel.
Benchmark
As you can see in the video below, our benchmark sequence takes place on a very busy shopping and entertainment mile, which you reach shortly after completing the tutorial. There we walk along the middle of the street for about 30 seconds and record the performance with the tool CapFrameX.

FHD (1920 x 1080)
Beginner GPUs on the level of the GeForce MX330 can only display Like a Dragon smoothly when using 1280 x 720 pixels and low graphics options. Nevertheless, the system demands turns out to be quite moderate overall. With a halfway current midrange model (e.g. the GeForce GTX 1650), 1920 x 1080 pixels and medium-to-high details are possible. Starting with the Radeon RX 5500M, you can even select the Ultra preset in Full-HD.

QHD (2560 x 1440)
For a mixture of 2560 x 1440 pixels and maximum settings, a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or RTX 2060 upwards is sufficient, which is also not overly demanding.

UHD (3840 x 2160)
Especially expensive high-end systems are only necessary in the 4K range. With a combination of 3840 x 2160 pixels and the Ultra-Preset, only Nvidia's top model, the GeForce RTX 2080, can currently cope in the laptop segment.

Note
Since gaming tests are very time-consuming and often hampered by installation or activation limits, we can only provide you with a partial set of benchmarks for publication of the articles. More graphics cards will be installed in the coming days and weeks.
