The developers behind Far Cry 6 did a great job with the graphics menu, which is very extensive and user-friendly. Due to the large amount of settings, there are several submenus. The first tab (Monitor) contains settings for the resolution, refresh rate, screen mode, and aspect ratio.
The next tab contains more than 10 graphics settings, all of which can be changed in one fell swoop thanks to built-in presets. Here, you can find the toggle for the optional HD textures (if you decide to opt for HD textures during installation, the game size will shoot past 70 GB).
In the Color tab, gamers can adjust the brightness, contrast and gamma. In the advanced settings, you can lock the frame rate, enable vertical synchronization and adaptive resolution scaling. Positive: all settings, except for HD textures, can be applied without a restart. Moreover, Far Cry 6 offers support for ray-traced shadows and reflections.
On a technological level, Far Cry 6 appears to be half-baked. For instance, there is the infamous “warm up PSO cache” issue, which can occur when loading the game. What is more, after changing graphics settings the game can become quite laggy for no apparent reason.
Sometimes, a restart resolves the performance issues. Sometimes, only a system reboot is sufficient. And sometimes, the game just does not run well when using certain resolutions even though it absolutely should. In any case, we did not include benchmark runs with very suspicious results.

Even when everything seems to be working well, the frame rates can fluctuate quite strongly. In fact, these frame rate fluctuations affected the GPU rankings in some cases. A further complicating factor is the high VRAM usage. For instance, the 2 GB MX450 (Mobile) was exhibiting a lot of stuttering even at the lowest settings. According to the built-in VRAM gauge, Far Cry 6 requires anywhere between 3 GB (low settings, HD textures off) and 5 GB (ultra settings, HD textures on) of VRAM at 1080p.
We cannot even say with certainty that the VRAM gauge is working correctly because during the installation process we were advised that the game required a GPU with 11 GB of VRAM to run well with HD textures enabled. Regardless of the graphics settings, Far Cry 6 crashed from time to time during our benchmark marathon. In short, the developers should address the issues plaguing the game as soon as possible.
Benchmark
Just like the predecessors, the latest Far Cry title features a built-in benchmark. After the benchmark run is complete, it displays useful statistics such as minimum, average and maximum frame rates The frame rate stats are also displayed during the benchmark run. As you can see from the video below, in the benchmark the camera flies across the coastal town. Explosions, cars and people figure in the benchmark sequence.
As far as playability is concerned, because Far Cry 6 is a fast-paced first-person shooter, 40 FPS is the absolute minimum here. 60 FPS is what we would actually recommend, though.
Results
The benchmarks were conducted mainly using the laptops which our partners MSI and XMG (Schenker Technologies) lent us.
FHD (1920x1080)
As long as your graphics card features a 4 GB frame buffer, it should be able to handle Far Cry 6 – at least at 1080p. GPUs on the level of the GeForce GTX 1650 (Ti) manage to hit the 40 FPS mark even at the highest settings with HD textures on. To achieve 60 FPS, you will have to lower the settings considerably and turn off HD textures.

QHD (2560x1440)
Far Cry 6 requires an upper midrange GPU with 6 GB of VRAM to be playable at 1440p. Both the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and the Radeon RX 5600M can achieve 60 FPS at the highest settings with HD textures on at 1440p.

Note
Because benchmarking video games is very time consuming and is often constrained by installation/activation limits, at the time of publishing, we were able to provide only a part of our performance analysis of Far Cry 6. Other graphics cards will be added in the coming days and weeks.
