Performance Analysis of Days Gone
Technology
The third-person title is powered by Unreal Engine 4. The PC port of Days Gone looks about as impressive as any other game released this year. For instance, the textures look very sharp—at least on the high setting. The draw distance and the vegetation density are also on a very good level. The title has a very distinct atmosphere.
All in all, Days Gone is a very good-looking game. The excellently made videos contribute to the positive impression as well.
The graphics settings menu, which is very simple and easy to navigate, deserves some praise. In the Display tab, you can change the resolution and the refresh rate. Here you can also enable vertical synchronisation and HDR. Moreover, there is also a frame rate limiter in this tab. In the Graphics tab, you can adjust the brightness, field of view and the render resolution. All in all, the Graphics tab contains 10 settings and offers 4 useful presets.
Playing Days Gone with a keyboard and mouse is very enjoyable. This is not often the case with console ports. Graphics changes do not require a restart to take effect. The game also provides information on how certain graphics settings affect the frame rate. The game size of 60 GB is normal for a 2021 title.
Benchmark
As you can see from the video below, our benchmark takes place in the mission entitled "I Say We Head North". Our benchmark sequence consists of the playable character riding on the back of the bike through the rain. We use CapFrameX to record the frame rates.
Results
FHD (1920x1080)
Days Gone is not a very demanding game. Even low-end GPUs such as the GeForce MX350 can handle it at 1080p on the low preset. A mid-range GPU such as the GeForce GTX 1650 (Ti) or the Radeon RX 5500M is required to achieve playable frame rates (40 FPS+ on average) at 1080p on the high preset.

QHD (2560x1440)
To run Days Gone at 1440p on the highest preset, you will need an upper mid-range GPU such as the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or the Radeon RX 5600M.

UHD (3840x2160)
If you want to max out the settings at 4K, you will need a current-generation top-tier desktop GPU. Here, even the GeForce RTX 2080 (Mobile) struggles to achieve a playable frame rate.

Note
Because benchmarking video games is very time consuming and is often constrained by installation/activation limits, at the time of publishing, we were able to provide only a part of our performance analysis of Days Gone. Other graphics cards will be added in the coming days and weeks.
