Technology
Even though Fenyx Rising relies on Ubisoft’s AnvilNext 2.0 engine, which we already saw in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, it does not look as stunning as other Ubisoft games based on this engine.
However, this might not be entirely unwanted in some quarters, because poorer visuals mean lower system requirements. Moreover, thanks to the comic book style, the game does not need high-end visuals to look good. Saturated colours, pretty effects, and strong contours make Fenyx Rising appear impressive, despite the fact that some textures in the game look quite muddy.
All in all, gamers will be pleased with the expansive graphics settings menu. Howbeit, users will have to do a decent amount of scrolling when changing settings, because the setting boxes are quite large. Users can change the resolution, display mode, aspect ratio, refresh rate and the resolution scale in the Display
tab. Here they can also enable/disable vertical synchronisation and cap the frame rate. The Graphics
tab offers a wide variety of settings, all of which can be changed in one fell swoop thanks to the included presets.
There is also a VRAM gauge. For a 2020 title, Immortals Fenyx Rising does not require a lot of video memory. At 1080p on the very high preset, the title only needs about 3 GB of VRAM (about 4.6 GB at 2160p). Positive: the game—just like other Ubisoft titles—explains what each setting does with the help of images and text. The fact that some settings require a restart to take effect is not too annoying, because introductory videos can be skipped. However, the bit where the game is checking for additional content
can take a while.
We enjoyed playing Fenyx Rising during our short gaming session. The tight controls, fluid movements and the cool combat system make for a satisfying gaming experience. The title resembles a mix of Borderlands 3 (humour) and Darksiders games (mythological story).
Benchmark
Just like other Ubisoft games, Fenyx Rising comes with a built-in benchmark. In the 40-second benchmark sequence, the camera flies over one of the islands in the game world. There is an overlay, which provides information about the hardware, graphics settings and performance (FPS counter). At the end of the benchmark, users are presented with a detailed performance analysis (minimum, average and maximum frame rates).
Because this is not a first-person shooter, the game does not need to hit 60 FPS to be playable. We think 35 FPS or higher should be enough for an enjoyable gaming experience.
Results
FHD (1920x1080)
Fenyx Rising does not need a monster GPU to run smoothly. Entry-level video cards such as the GeForce MX330 can handle the title at 720p on the low preset. The game is playable at 1080p on a mid-range graphics card. The GeForce GTX 1650 and the Radeon RX 5500M can maintain playable frame rates in Immortals Fenyx Rising on high settings.

QHD (2560x1440)
At 1440p, the game becomes quite a bit more demanding. Here, gamers will need at least a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti to hit decent frame rates on very high settings.

UHD (3840x2160)
The Ubisoft title needs a veritable high-end graphics card such as the GeForce RTX 2070 to be playable at 4K on the highest settings.

Note
Because benchmarking video games is very time consuming and is often constrained by installation/activation limits, at the time of publishing, we were able to provide only a part of our performance analysis of Immortals Fenyx Rising. Other graphics cards will be added in the coming days and weeks.
