Considering a current press evaluation of 58 points and user score of 2.2 (metacritic.com), Ubisoft's new Tom Clancy sprout has not received a particularly good reception in the gaming scene so far. It is very unfortunate that the game remains behind expectations in terms of the content, since the graphics are to a large extent on a high quality level.

If you ignore several textures that could have been a bit sharper, there is almost nothing to complain about the visuals. This begins with the character models that are very detailed and mostly have elegant animations. Additional highlights include the open gaming world. Thanks to the ample distance views and the dense vegetation, Ghost Recon Breakpoint offers a fitting atmosphere. In addition, there are some neat details such as clothes getting dirty and ruts in the ground from crawling.
There is also some praise for the extensive setting options, which Ubisoft has gathered in a settings menu (see screenshots further below). Aside from the scrolling efforts, we really like the video menu. As typical for Ubisoft, there is an explanation for each of the settings, which particularly benefits beginners. The Advanced Settings area offers a total of 15 separate options that can easily be adjusted together using presets. With these, the palette ranges from Low up to Ultimate (the latter level is meant for future hardware generations).

Ubisoft could make some improvements in terms of the load times. For example, even with an SSD, it takes forever to start the game. On an HDD, the load processes also take a lot of time during the game. From time to time, there were also some crashes during the test. At 41 GB, the download size is average for a game from 2019.
As you can see in the images below, depending on the selected preset, the graphics quality differs widely. Besides the density of the vegetation, the illumination, shadows, and texture sharpness also suffer in lower settings. Starting at medium details, Breakpoint looks acceptable, and starting from high details we would speak about good visuals. At higher levels, the new Ghost Recon shows itself quite demanding in terms of the VRAM usage. At Ultra details when using 1920x1080 pixels, you need almost 5.4 GB. At 2560x1440 pixels, it is about 5.7 GB, and at 3840x2160 pixels, even about 6.8 GB is required.
Benchmark
Like almost all triple-A games from Ubisoft (Far Cry New Dawn, The Division 2, Assassin‘s Creed Odyssey, Rainbow Six Siege, etc.), Breakpoint also contains an integrated benchmark. This consists of a three-minute camera ride through several game and weather zones. Thanks to the built-in indicators, the benchmark offers a lot of analysis options, which include the load of the GPU and CPU (including separate cores) or the general FPS numbers. At the end of the measurement there is an additional evaluation, including a summary.
Results
HD (1280x720)
The integrated graphics chips from Intel and AMD that are built into the processor have a hard time at 1280x720 pixels and the Low preset. For example, the Radeon RX Vega 8 only reached 20 FPS in these settings, which corresponds to a stutter orgy. So without a dedicated graphics card, there is no point in buying the game.

FHD (1920x1080)
With Full HD panels, even mid-range representatives such as the GeForce GTX 1050 (Ti) hit their limits. For the Medium or High preset, we recommend at least a GeForce GTX 1650, and for the Ultra preset, a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or better is needed.

QHD (2560x1440) and UHD (3840x2160)
In the QHD range, you will not get around a high-end model on the level of the GeForce GTX 1080 if it has to be Ultra settings. Using UHD monitors, all current laptop chips prove to be overtaxed, even Nvidia's top model, the GeForce RTX 2080.

Note
Since gaming tests are very time-consuming and often hindered by installation or activation limitations, we are only able to deliver some of the benchmarks to you at the time of publishing the article. Additional graphics cards will be inserted in the following days and weeks.
