Technology
If you don't have a problem with undemanding gameplay (simple quick-time events, etc.) and want to enjoy a creepy story with deliberate (but also partly unintentional) trash references comfortably on the couch, you might enjoy The Quarry.
One of the biggest strengths of the third-person game is the convincing visuals. The environments around a youth or children's adventure camp are very atmospherically designed and offer modern graphics for the most part. The characters in particular impress with a high level of detail, although some of the animations - be it bugs or problems with the underlying technology - seem a bit strange.
By the way, the quality of the dialogues turns out to be similarly variable. They turn out to be very mixed and range from successful/good to embarrassing/bad, especially since some of the characters' reactions are extremely unbelievable or conversations degenerate into irrelevant "babble", which only artificially stretches the game time and unnecessarily takes out tension.
But back to the technology: thanks to the cinematic staging with cool camera perspectives and a dynamic transition between "video sequences" and playable passages, you get a real cinema feeling. The PC version can also be controlled surprisingly well with a mouse and keyboard - except for minor dropouts.
The graphics menu contains a moderate number of settings. In addition to adjusting the resolution, it is also possible to activate V-Sync and FPS limit (30 fps), for example. In addition, seven quality controls can be changed globally via preset and do not require a restart.
Technically, The Quarry is unfortunately not (yet) completely clean on the PC. The minimum FPS is often very modest even on stronger systems - regardless of the selected settings (jerkiness). The fact that there is no real 21:9 aspect ratio is also a pity for owners of suitable monitors.
Benchmark
Our benchmark sequence is in the second chapter of the story. As you can see in the following video, it is an automatically running passage. Using the CapFrameX tool, we record a walk through the forest between two characters for just under 50 seconds.
FHD (1,920 x 1,080)
If you look at entry-level chips like the one used in current Intel processors Iris Xe Graphics G7 the requirements are moderate when using 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Mid-range representatives on the level of the GeForce RTX 3050 (Ti) can sometimes handle high to maximum settings in Full HD.

QHD (2,560 x 1,440)
It gets more demanding in the QHD range. A combination of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and the Ultra preset can only be driven by a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6800M.

UHD (3,840 x 2,160)
At 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, even absolute high-end notebooks with a GeForce RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 reach their limits, provided that the Ultra preset is used. The desktop counterparts perform much better here - as is often the case.

Note
Since gaming tests are very time-consuming and often restricted by installation or activation limits, we can only provide you with a part of the benchmarks for the publication of the articles. More graphics cards will be installed in the coming days and weeks.
