Company of Heroes 3 review: Laptop and desktop benchmarks
Technical aspects
Let's just get it out of the way first: we don't fully understand why Company of Heroes 3 have received such overall positive reviews from the press. Firstly, the controls are still somewhat clunky right now (you can also only zoom out a little); secondly, the game's graphics looks rather dated, dull and barren.
From a technical standpoint, the game hasn't changed much from its almost 10-year-old predecessor (objects are sometimes angular, textures look rather bland, and so on). The only positive thing to highlight is the detailed destruction physics. For instance, after getting hit by heavy projectiles, houses will start losing individual parts before being reduced to rubble. This is visually quite impressive. Nonetheless, we would describe the graphics as just adequate, which is definitely disappointing but still fairly acceptable for a tactics-heavy strategy game.
The graphics menu is likewise relatively modest. The upper section lets you change the display mode, resolution, framerate limit, brightness, scaling and VSync, while the lower section provides only six performance and quality options. We aren't too bothered by the lack of presets because there are only a handful of options available.
Benchmark
We like the integrated benchmark in Company of Heroes 3. Although the sequence used in the benchmark is quite long at 1.5 minutes, the AI match features skirmishes between various foot units and vehicles (the exact sequence changes from test run to test run) and is a pretty good representation of a real match.
Once the benchmark is over, the game will show you a brief analysis complete with specs and performance graphs.
Results
FHD (1,920 x 1,080)
Company of Heroes 3 is delightfully undemanding in terms of graphics performance. Whilst "better" Intel iGPUs such as the Iris Xe Graphics G7 can run the game smoothly at no higher than 1,280 x 720 and minimum settings, good AMD iGPUs like the Radeon 680M can sometimes also churn out more than 40 fps at 1,920 x 1,080 and low to mid settings.

QHD (2,560 x 1,440)
Mid-range GPUs are recommended only if you intend to run the game at resolutions higher than Full HD. A Radeon RX 6600M is already powerful enough to get the game running above 60 fps at 2,560 x 1,440 and max settings.

UHD (3,840 x 2,160)
With the settings turned all the way up, all it takes to run the game at 3,840 x 2,160 is an upper mid-tier graphics card, such as the GeForce RTX 3060.

Note
Because gaming tests are very time-consuming and are often constrained by installation or activation limits, we are only able to provide you with part of the benchmark results at the time of publishing this article. We will be adding more graphics cards over the coming days and weeks.
