Immortals of Aveum review: Laptop and desktop benchmarks
Test laptops
We currently run our gaming benchmarks with these laptops. Clicking on the photos will take you to the respective manufacturer's homepage. All other test systems (tower PCs, mini PCs, ...) are listed at the end of the article.
Tech
You can unfortunately quite quickly notice that the PC version of Immortals of Aveum could really have done with a few more weeks of development/optimization. In our eyes, the main problem is its high resource requirement when it comes to the graphics card (more on that soon). But even using top-of-the-range models, you can't avoid the odd dropped frame and bad minimum FPS - which really takes its toll on the whole gaming experience.
The same as with many other games we have reviewed in the last months (e.g. Resident Evil 4 Remake or The Last of Us Part I), Immortals of Aveum also seems to have quite a large video memory consumption. This leads the game to frequently crash when playing it using graphics cards with 8 GB VRAM or less at high settings and resolutions. The system requirements feel especially exaggerated in relation to its offered visuals, which might be good - but they are by no means exceptional.
Unfortunately, you also can't rely on the CPU and GPU load indicator which is built into the graphics menu. According to the game, playing at maximum settings shouldn't even be possible on a Core i9-13900K, which should deliver more than enough power. It's also a shame that explanations, comparison images and any practical presets seem to be missing from the graphics menu.
Even so, the game offers a wide range of settings for tuning fans. The graphics tab contains over 20 settings, most of which range from low to ultra (the developer has strangely left out medium settings). Somewhat annoying or rather a pity: Some settings require the game to be restarted. This at least doesn't take too long thanks to the skippable videos, though. Only the first startup can cause a longer waiting time due to the games files being optimized, as we already know from more and more games.
Another thing which is typical for modern games is the presence of FSR and DLSS. The latter lets you additionally activate Frame Generation. Our corresponding benchmarks (see below) confirm that a combination of DLSS Quality and FG leads to surprisingly good performance, but there were also severe graphics errors at the time of testing, which definitely need to be fixed.
Benchmark
We used the very beginning of the game as our benchmark sequence, in which the main character follows a certain Luna through a winding city. We recorded the frame rate of this fairly linear run for about 30 seconds using the tried and tested tool CapFrameX. If you exclude the currently still occurring jitters, which happen regardless of the installed hardware, you can generally class 40 FPS+ as being decently playable according to our experience.
Results
FHD (1,920 x 1,080)
Anyone who uses an iGPU can save themselves the hassle of installing this game. Even at 1,280 x 720 pixels and with minimum details, a Radeon 680M only managed to achieve just over 30 FPS. For Full HD, you will at least need a current upper mid-range GPU or an older high-end GPU. For a mix of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and high details, we would recommend at least a GeForce RTX 4050 or a Radeon RX 6800S and for maximum details we would recommend a GeForce RTX 406, an RTX 3070 Ti or better.

QHD (2,560 x 1,440)
QHD display users will only be happy if they have access to an absolute high-end device to play this game on. Laptops from a GeForce RTX 4080 are able to run this game acceptably at 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and using Ultra settings.

UHD (3,840 x 2,160)
At the moment, every laptop chip on the market seems to be overwhelmed when trying to run the game at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and using maximum details. This combination requires a powerful desktop GPU on the level of the GeForce RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 7900 XT. Including DLSS (Quality) and Frame Generation, the situation is much more relaxed. Playable frame rates are possible starting with a mobile GeForce RTX 4070.
