Technology
Even if you exclude the pay-to-win rip-off in multiplayer, FIFA 23 doesn't cut a good figure at the moment. Even weeks after the launch, the title is still plagued by various technical flaws, which is why we have to issue a clear purchase warning. FIFA 23 didn't work properly on almost any of our numerous systems, whether we used an Origin or a Steam key. We encountered the following problems in the course of our tests (many of which can probably be traced back to EA's new anti-cheat software):

- an installation in Origin was impossible for us because the download did not continue reproducibly at almost 40% (as soon as the title should be playable). All other points concern the Steam version
- sometimes FIFA 23 complained that Steam isn't up to date (didn't occur with any other game so far)
- FIFA 23 refuses to start if no Secure Boot is activated on the system or Secure Boot is activated incompletely (did not occur with any other game so far)
- sometimes other error messages appear, which either disappear, reappear, or are replaced by other messages when trying again
- loading the anti-cheat software usually takes forever or the corresponding loading menu appears twice
- when you enter the game for the first time, the FIFA 23 screen does not react for a long time, as if the system hangs (eventually something happens)
- sporadically there were arbitrary crashes
- resolution changes are often not applied correctly on the first try
- with one system we had graphic errors in the main menu
- regardless of the installed hardware power, videos (mood clips before the game, etc.) tend to jerk
- although the graphics have subjectively hardly improved, the hardware requirements are partly considerably higher than in the predecessor or the performance is often noticeably worse
- the frame rate was suspiciously low on some systems, e.g. our RTX 3080 Ti notebook with Alder Lake CPU ran slower than the RTX 3050 Ti notebook with Tiger Lake CPU across all resolutions and settings (the former values are therefore not entered)
- due to the sheer mass of problems, we stopped taking notes at some point. Otherwise, this list could go on for quite a while...

Benchmark
As in the previous parts, a kick-off match between FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund at the fictitious Sanderson Park is used as a benchmark sequence (Summer at 7:30 pm). As you can see in the video below, the half-time length is set to 6 real minutes, although we only record around 4 minutes of play at a time using the CapFrameX tool. Since the frame rate can change a lot on replays, we'll just try to kick around the midfield a bit as usual.
FHD (1,920 x 1,080)
With the exception of, for example, the Radeon 680M, iGPUs quickly reach their limits in the Full HD range. Thus, an Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 does not even manage the preset low smoothly, which is why it should be a mid-range GPU for FIFA 23.

QHD (2,560 x 1,440)
A combination of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and the Ultra preset requires a high-end GPU like the GeForce RTX 3060.

UHD (3,840 x 2,160)
In the UHD range, you generally cannot avoid a real gaming device at maximum settings. In the test, only a Radeon RX 6800M approached the 60 FPS mark.

Note
Since gaming tests are very time-consuming and often restricted by installation or activation limits, we can only provide you with a part of the benchmarks for the publication of the articles. More graphics cards will be installed in the coming days and weeks.
