The Intel Arc A730M (device ID 5691) is a dedicated mobile lower- mid-range graphics card for laptops based on Xe HPG microarchitecture. It uses the ACM-G10 chip and offers 24 of the 32 Xe-cores (384 ALUs), 24 ray tracing units and a 192-bit memory bus for 12 GB GDDR6 graphics memory. The cores can clock from 300 MHz (low frequency mode) to 1100 MHz (high frequency) or in short bursts 2050 MHz (Turbo). The chip integrates 21.7 billion transistors, uses a BGA2660 package (soldered), and the die measures 406 mm2.

The performance of the Arc A730M is not yet known. The power consumption is similar to a RTX 3060 and therefore we see the performance slightly below a RTX 3060 mobile.

The chip also integrates two media engines for VP9, AVC, HEVC, and AV1 8k en- and decoding. The 4 display pipes support up to 4x 4k120 HDR via DMI 2.0B or DisplayPort 2.0 10G. 

The A730M is produced in 6nm at TSMC (N6 process) and supports dynamic power share (using Deep Link) with 12th gen Intel CPUs (Alder Lake).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU or 3080 Mobile (for laptops, GN20-E7) is the fastest graphics card for notebooks in early 2021. It is based on the GA104-775-A1 Ampere chip and offers 8 or 16 GB GDDR6 graphics memory with a 256 Bit memory bus. It supports PCIe 4.0 and will be available in different variants from 80 - 150 Watt (TGP) (80, 90, 115, 125, 135, 145 and 150+ Watt). As package the notebook graphic card uses GB5-256 and the chip size is 40x40mm. The GPU supports eDP 1.4b to connect the internal monitor.

There is no more Max-Q variant (formerly used for the low power variants) but every OEM can choose to implement Max-Q technologies (Dynamic Boost, Whispermode).

The performance depends on the TGP setting and cooling of the laptop. At the same TGP level the RTX3080 should be faster than the old top model, the RTX 2080 Super Mobile and similar to the desktop RTX 3070. This means, the GPU should be well suited for 4k gaming or QHD with high frame rates. The similar named RTX 3080 desktop card is significantly faster.

The GA104 chip offers 6,144 FP32 ALUs of which half can also execute INT32 instructions (i.e. 3,072 INT32 ALUs). With Turing all shaders could still execute FP32 or INT32 instructions. The raytracing and tensor cores on the chip were also improved according to Nvidia. The Ampere chips also include an improved 5th generation video encoder (NVENC for H.264 and H.265) and a 7th generation decoder (for various formats now including AV1).

The GA104 chip is manufactured by Samsung in 8nm (8N), which is not quite able to keep up with the 7nm node at TSMC (e.g. used by AMD and also for the professional GA100 Ampere chip).

Intel Arc A770M

The Intel Arc A770M (Device ID 5690) is a dedicated mid-range graphics card from Intel for notebooks. It is based on the ACM-G10 chip and offers all 32 Xe cores (512 ALUs), 32 ray tracing units, 6 MB L1 cache and 16 MB L2 cache. The clock rates can range from 300 MHz to 1650 MHz (gaming) to 2050 MHz (turbo). The memory interface is 256 bits wide and supports 16 GB GDDR6 graphics memory with 16 Gbps. The TGP is between 120 and 150 watts depending on the model.

The performance of the A770M is on average of all games we tested approx. 4% ahead of a mobile RTX 3060 laptop GPU. However, there are significant deviations depending on the game. In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, for example, the A770M can reach the level of an RTX 3070 laptop GPU and demonstrate its theoretical performance.

The ACM-G10 chip is manufactured at TSMC in 6 nm (N6 process), uses a BGA2660 interface (resolved), offers 21.7 billion transistors and is 406 mm² in size. It integrates two media engines for VP9, AVC, HEVC, AV1 8k60 12-bit HDR decoding and 8k 10-bit HDR encoding. The integrated 4 display pipes support 4x 4k120 HDR, HDMI 2.0B, DP 2.0 10G and Adaptive Sync.

Dynamic Power Share can be used with a 12th generation CPU (Alder Lake) via Deep Link.
