Apple M4 9-Core GPU

Apple M4 9-Core GPU

The 9-core Apple M4 GPU is a graphics card introduced in the iPad Air with the M4 chip and offers 9 of the 10 cores. This makes 144 of the 160 SIMD EUs available. Together with the CPU, the GPU can access 12 GB of unified memory with a bandwidth of up to 120 GB/s.

Some popular video codecs can be decoded and encoded in hardware, but the selection is nowhere near as extensive as on current AMD iGPUs, let alone Intel iGPUs. However, numerous modern technologies such as ray tracing are supported.

Like the rest of the Apple M4 chip, the graphics card is manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 3 nm process, which is still state of the art in late 2024.
