Intel Core i7-6950X

The Intel Core i7-6950X is a high-end desktop CPU based on the Broadwell-E architecture. With its 10 physical cores (20 threads due to HyperThreading) it is intended for workstation PCs. The base clock speed is 3 GHz and ranges up to 3.5 GHz (Turbo Boost). The CPU also supports Turbo Boost Max 3.0, where a single core can be clocked even higher. However, this requires a special driver and a manual application profile. For current games of 2016, a fast quad-core CPU like the Kaby Lake based Core i7-7700K may be faster than the 6950X.
The CPU is produced in 14nm and rated at a quite high TDP of 120 Watt.
