The AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX is a high-end workstation processor with 96 Zen 4 cores and hyperthreading (SMT), which means it can process up to 192 threads simultaneously. Due to its high performance, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX is usually found in modern high-end workstations.
With the introduction of the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series, AMD has also introduced the new sTR5 socket with the new WRX90 chipset. This means that it is not possible to upgrade from a 5000-generation Ryzen Threadripper without changing the motherboard.
Performance
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX offers a base clock of 2.5 GHz and can boast a good increase in performance thanks to the Zen4 architecture. Both the single and multi-core performance benefits enormously from the improved architecture. There is also DDR5 support, although the WRX90 chipset uses RDIMM modules with ECC. Meanwhile, only the WRX90 chipset offers octa-channel support. The TRX50 chipset only offers quad-channel support and supports the non-pro models of the Threadripper 7000 series.
The performance of the 96-core processor is very high in multi-threaded applications, making it the fastest processor in 2023. However, the software must also be able to handle the high number of CPU cores. In the test, it was not always possible to achieve the optimum here.
Power consumption
The maximum power consumption of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX is 350 watts. This increases the power consumption by 70 watts compared to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX.
Overall, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX impresses with its consistently very high performance. However, for around USD 10,000 (at release), this processor is anything but a bargain and can only be found in the absolute high-end workstation sector.
