Progress meets regression. The Aorus 15-W9 is able to bring all the current computer games smoothly to the matte 15.6-inch display (144 Hz, FHD, IPS). The components are also suitable: an NVMe SSD, HDD, and 16 GB of working memory. But it is not free of weaknesses: the battery life is meager and there is no Thunderbolt 3.

Now with Whiskey Lake. The design remains unchanged, but inside there is a lot going on. HP has upgraded the Pavilion 15 series to Intel Whiskey Lake chips and Nvidia’s new generation of GeForce MX GPUs. AMD gaming power with stamina. The ASUS TUF Gaming FX705DY is an all red affair with its AMD APU and GPU. The device handles all modern games smoothly on its matte 17.3-inch screen display, which load quickly thanks to its NVMe SSD. The FX705DY even has good battery life. The MX250 provides no advantage. Acer's 15.6-inch multimedia all-rounder scores points with a slim and compact body, as well as a good configuration: Core i7 processor, IPS display, NVMe SSD, HDD, dual-channel RAM. The highlight is the new GeForce MX250 GPU. Despite it having a price of around 1,100 Euros (~$1,236), the laptop does not come without its weaknesses.

A low-cost office laptop. Lenovo's 15.6-inch laptop has a Stoney Ridge APU, an SSD and 8 GB of RAM on board. About 430 Euros (~$485) has to be spent on the computer. The screen and the battery life are the biggest weaknesses of the laptop.

It's complicated. Dell competes in the business laptop market with AMD CPUs with a rather small lineup. Will the single Dell Latitude model with Ryzen, the Dell Latitude 14 5495, be able to compete with well-known competitors like the Lenovo ThinkPad A485 and the HP EliteBook 745 G5? In some ways it can compete, but our review also uncovered some weaknesses.

Outmanoeuvred. ASUS has packed powerful hardware into a sleek and compact case, which is impressive on the face of it. Unfortunately, this feat cannot be done without compromising somewhere, which we tackle in this review. The UX433FN shares many of its features with its siblings that we have already reviewed like its IPS screen, NVMe SSD, dual-channel RAM and backlit keyboard. Sadly, ASUS equips this model with a reflective display too.

Held back on purpose? In addition to the A series, Lenovo is also offering its more affordable E series with AMD processors. We tested how the ThinkPad fares against the Intel competition and also evaluated whether a configuration with dual-channel RAM brings any advantages. Unremarkable. The VivoBook Flip 14 comes with a Core i3 processor, dual-channel-enabled RAM and an SSD. The IPS touchscreen can be used not only with the fingers but also with the Asus Pen, which is sold separately.

Four cores without a fan. Asus packs the energy-saving Intel Pentium Silver N500 quad-core processor into a small 11.6-inch laptop. In addition, there are four GB of RAM and a usable battery, which make the device a small and affordable companion for everyday life. In our review we clarify what users may expect from the small laptop with a price tag of less than 350 Euros (~$392).
