A robot lawn mower without a boundary wire can be a big help when gardening. It automatically mows the lawn to the desired height without having to lift a finger (after a usually very quick setup).

But which model is the best robot lawn mower without a boundary wire to buy in 2025? This list was made to provide the answer. We list the best models we tested here.

For the sake of clarity, the products are divided into robot lawn mowers for small areas up to approx. 1,000 square meters, models for medium-sized lawns between around 1,000 and 2,000 square meters and robot lawn mowers for large gardens from approx. 2,000 square meters. Detailed information on the models listed can be found in the links to the respective test reports.

The best robot lawn mowers for small areas (up to approx. 1,000 square meters)

Not everyone has a huge garden. However, robot lawn mowers without wires can prove their worth on smaller lawns, too.

Below are the best robot lawn mowers for smaller areas.

1st place: Segway Navimow i105E

The Navimow i105E from Segway makes it to the 1st spot in 2025 despite being a 2024 model. The product, which costs 989 euros (RRP), is designed to handle smaller areas of 600 square meters or less. (The manufacturer also offers the Navimow i108E, an almost identical model for lawns up to 960 square meters.)

The Navimow i105E impressed us with its many strengths last year and is now even better thanks to software updates.

The product's highlight features include obstacle detection, optional 4G LTE and a fairly compact design, as our in-depth Navimow i105E review has shown. Please note the location must allow for uninterrupted RTK use. Moreover, the Navimow is not particularly suitable for hilly terrains.

Segway's Navimow i105E is available from Amazon.de, among other options, and is usually priced well below the RRP. In short, this is a very good and also quite affordable robot mower for small gardens.

2nd place: Mammotion Yuka Mini

Finishing very close behind the Navimow i105E/i108E is the Yuka Mini. This model, which is available in four different versions, is also an excellent robot mower for small areas up to approx. 800 square meters.

Among other things, the Yuka Mini impresses with excellent obstacle detection and optional navigation without an RTK antenna.

It can leave rather wide strips of uncut grass depending on the ground level, and its power consumption is on the higher side, as measured as part of our review.

The compact robot lawn mower without wire is available in these four variants. The Yuka Mini 500 for 799 euros (RRP) and Yuka Mini 700 that has an RRP of 999 euros - both available from Amazon.de, among other options - as well as the Yuka Mini 600 for 899 euros and Yuka Mini 800 for 1,099 euros, (both available from Mammotion Germany). Notebookcheck reviewed the 800, and this is where the reader can find detailed information on what makes the four different.

3rd place: Mammotion Luba Mini AWD 800

The Luba Mini AWD is the next compact robot lawn mower from Mammotion, positioned directly below the Yuka Mini. In our testing, we had the version for up to approximately 800 square meters, navigating with an RTK antenna or optionally via NetRTK (Wi-Fi or 4G LTE).

The Luba Mini AWD scores points with its all-wheel drive, among other things, allowing it to climb our test ramp with an impressive 65 percent incline.

All in all, in our Mammotion Luba Mini AWD testing there was little to criticize. Obstacle detection was not quite perfect, but performed well. In addition, there are the usual weaknesses with edge mowing, and the rather high price, in part due to the all-wheel drive.

The recommended retail price for the Luba Mini AWD 800 is €1,599. However, it is available for less on Amazon.de and the like. Alternatively, there is also a version for up to 1,500 square meters with an RRP of 1,999 euros.

4th place: TerraMow V1000

TerraMow enters the competition with the V1000, the second generation of its wire-free robot mowers. These come with various improvements compared to the S800/S1200 from 2024, such as the TerraVision 2.0 Triple-Camera AI Vision System.

The TerraMow V1000, which finds its way solely with cameras like the previous models, impressed us in the test with its independent AI mapping and perfect obstacle avoidance, among other things.

Another improvement is that virtual exclusion zones can now be created during mapping, and that's not the only thing that helped the product perform well in the test. Among other things, the app offers numerous options, including for edge mowing. Here, however, the (almost) usual 10 cm of uncut lawn remains if there are no ground-level transitions.

The TerraMow V1000 is designed for areas up to 1,000 square meters in size. With a recommended retail price of €1,199, it is one of the most reliable and affordable robot lawn mowers for smaller gardens. It is available from Amazon.de among other options. More information about about the TerraMow V1000 can be found in our review.

The best robot lawn mowers for medium-sized lawns (up to approx. 2,000 square meters)

Listed below are the best robot lawn mowers 2025 for medium-sized lawns - from around 1,000 to approximately 2,000 square meters.

1st place: Ecovacs Goat A1600 RTK

No, it's not perfect, but the Goat A1600 RTK still managed to achieve the best overall rating of all the robot mowers for medium-sized gardens that we tested. The model is designed for lawns up to approximately 1,600 square meters in size.

The Goat A1600 RTK from Ecovacs impressed us with its wide double mower deck and high mowing speed, among other benefits. It charges quickly, but is rather power-hungry.

The RTK and AI camera-based navigation worked reliably in Notebookcheck's Goat A1600 RTK review, as did obstacle detection. Thanks to its two mowing discs, the Ecovacs Goat mows quite close to the edge, even if there is still room for improvement here.

While the recommended retail price for the Goat A1600 RTK is 1,499 euros, the mower is already available for significantly less from Amazon.de and directly from Ecovacs.

2nd place: Mammotion Yuka 2025

Mammotion's Yuka (2025) is one of the most versatile robot lawn mowers around. Several different versions are available; we put a Yuka 1000 through its paces which is a model for areas up to 1,000 square meters. A version for 2,000 sq. meters (Amazon.de affiliate link) exists, too; then, there is the Yuka 3000 for lawns of up to 3,000 square meters that can be had directly from Mammotion among other options.

In addition to the pure mowing function, the Yuka can also be equipped with an optional sweeper. The robot lawn mower can then automatically collect leaves and freshly cut grass.

In addition to the optional additional equipment, the improved 2025 version of the Yuka also scored points with its solid obstacle detection. Another useful feature is that it can find its way without an RTK antenna via NetRTK.

In Germany, the 2025 Yuka starts at 1,399 euros (RRP).

3rd place: Mammotion Luba Mini AWD LiDAR 1500

Mammotion products take the second and third places in the category. Occupying the third place is the Luba Mini AWD LiDAR 1500. This fairly new robot mower is a variant of the Luba Mini AWD that uses solid-state LiDAR instead of RTK for navigation.

This allows for reliable and safe navigation even in difficult environments without comprehensive GNSS RTK reception.

The Luba Mini AWD LiDAR 1500 performed very well in our real-life tests. What we feel is not ideal is the rather high price of 2,299 euros (RRP; product available from Amazon.de and other e-tailers) in relation to the area covered, up to 1,500 square meters. However, the mower does have an all-wheel drive, enabling it to climb a 65 percent incline on our test ramp.

4th place: Dreame A1 Pro

With the A1 Pro, Dreame has an improved version of its debut lawn mower, the A1 from 2024. The original product was underwhelming but this year's offerings are not (the statement applies not just to the A2 but to the A1 Pro as well).

The more sophisticated Dreame A1 Pro exclusively uses LiDAR to navigate the lawn and therefore does not need GNSS RTK reception.

The Pro version of Dreame's wireless robot lawn mower doesn't do everything perfectly and is limited due to the lack of cameras; this directly affects obstacle detection, among other things. On the other hand, it can easily do without GNSS/RTK reception, as our tests revealed. It reliably found its way through the test garden.

With a recommended retail price of 1,599 euros, the Dreame A1 Pro is a quite affordable option for areas smaller than 2,000 square meters. It tends to be available for less than that on Amazon Germany and from certain other e-tailers.

The best robot lawn mowers for large gardens (2,000 square meters or more)

Below are the best robot lawn mowers without a boundary wire for large lawns of approx. 2,000 square meters or more. The list only includes models that Notebookcheck editors have tested in 2025 and 2024.

1st place: Navimow X3 (X315 tested)

For those looking to get huge gardens under control, Segway's Navimow X3 is currently the king, our testing shows.

Notebookcheck tested the smaller X315 model suitable for areas up to 1,500 square meters. The X3 series comprises a total of five models all the way up to the X390 that can handle a maximum of 10,000 square meters. Fleet operation is also an option here, meaning even extremely large areas can be taken care of.

A highlight feature of the product is the optional side-mounted cutting/mowing module that's set to become available very soon and may solve what is probably the biggest problem with robot mowers.

Among other things, the Navimow X3 impressed us with its precise RTK navigation, reliable obstacle detection and (if desired) the higher speed mode, increasing the area processed per hour. The X3 is available from various stores and its RRP is 2,499 euros.

2nd place: Dreame A2

The A2 has to directly compete with the Navimow X3 in our ranking. The A2 is the successor to last year's A1.

Its sliding mower deck, which almost enables edge-to-edge mowing, is particularly impressive. The competition can take a leaf out of Dreame's book.

Dreame's A2 is one of the best robot lawn mowers for large lawns (Image source: Notebookcheck)
Dreame's A2 is one of the best robot lawn mowers for large lawns (Image source: Notebookcheck)

It scores points with its mowing performance, obstacle detection and setup ease, including AI area mapping. Thanks to its LiDAR and AI camera, it does not need RTK at all. This is one of the best robot mowers available in 2025 for gardens up to approximately 3,000 square meters, our testing shows.

Considering its performance and feature set (as compared to the competition), the A2 is not all that expensive with a recommended retail price of 2,499 euros. Besides, it is already available for less from Amazon.de among other options.

3rd place: Kärcher RCX 6

The 3rd best robot mower for large gardens that Notebookcheck knows of is Kärcher's RCX 6. Although certain things did not go perfectly smoothly in our testing, ultimately, the product delivered a more than solid performance on the lawn.

The RCX 6 particularly impressed us with its climbing ability. It is therefore our pick for gardens with big slopes.

It scores further plus points with its impressive cutting width thanks to the double mower deck. Obstacle detection performs well. With a recommended retail price of 3,299 euros, Kärcher's robot lawn mower is no bargain, however, it can usually be had for considerably less from Amazon.de and other e-tailers.
