AMD announces low-voltage Polaris-based embedded Radeon E9170 GPUs

Gigabyte hopes to release custom Vega 64 cards in the later half of October. This is somewhat of a relief to AMD fans in anticipation of custom graphics cards from AMD's Add-in-Board (AIB) partners, who claim to have issues with Vega chips preventing them from creating custom cards.

The Ataribox is an under-powered Linux PC priced to compete with the PS4 and Xbox One

In a newsletter sent out today, Atari gave some more information about the upcoming Ataribox. The console will be running a version of Linux, and users will have full access to the underlying operating system. Motherboard manufacturers claim the new 12nm Ryzen will arrive in February 2018

AMD motherboard partners have revealed that the planned launch for the new 12nm version of Ryzen is in February 2018, with 400-series motherboards to follow. AMD has seen large increases in revenue in 2017 and expects to account for 30 percent of the desktop CPU revenue in the first half of 2018.

The Kickstarter campaign initiated by Pimax raised the US$200,000 funding goal in less then 2 hours, so the company is now expected to ship the first models in February 2018. Scientists envision the optical computer - light and sound waves transformed into data

A group of researchers from the University of Sydney in Australia have developed a "photonic microchip" that converts light pulses into data, via sound waves. The chip does not produce any heat, it is immune to electromagnetic interference, and it's supposed to be 20 times faster than current CPUs.

The 16 extra cores found on Threadripper are "basically rocks"

A couple of days ago, de8auer posted a video showing the four dies in the Threadripper 1950X sanded down to reveal the silicon printing. This proved that the two "dummy dies" did contain proper Zen cores. Over the weekend a senior AMD staff member responded with what could be expected of the extra dies and why they were present.

Benchmark scores of the Zen-based AMD Ryzen 5 2500U APU are out on Geekbench and they seem promising. AMD 35 W Bristol Ridge A-Series APUs now available

The 35 W APUs from AMD are available now, after more than a month of shortage. These low TDP APUs still retain the core count, stream processors and integrated GPUs from the 65 W models, but the CPU / GPU clocks were reduced. Prices range between US$58 and US$112.95.

AMD says Ryzen was "a worst case scenario," reveals details on Ryzen 2

Regarding the arguably low CPU frequencies, AMD states that Ryzen was a brand new architecture on a brand new node, making it a worst case scenario. But it still turned out well, since the Ryzen Threadrippers can go above 4 GHz. As for the upcoming Ryzen 2, AMD promises increased clocks, more instructions per cycle, and better game optimization.

Data collected from Germany's largest online PC component retailer shows that sales of Ryzen CPUs are now higher than Intel's core series, giving AMD the leading market share in the performance space.
