Mid-range GPU buyers could be in for a treat as AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 cards are reportedly quite capable. The latest RDNA 4 performance leak which touches on the Navi 48 and Navi 44 alongside RDNA 3+ Strix Halo suggests that the mid-range Navi 48 outshines Navi 31-based cards like the RX 7900 GRE while Strix Halo is ahead of the current entry-level desktop GPUs.

Reports about AMD canceling the high-end RDNA 4 GPUs first popped up in August 2023 with some leaks claiming that the cancelation was to accelerate RDNA 5 development. The following months brought us information regarding the mid-rage Navi 48 and Navi 44. Thanks to a cryptic tweet on X by @All_The_Watts, we now have some rough RDNA 4 performance metrics that make AMD’s next-gen mid-range cards seem quite capable.

Navi 48 and 44 performance

The Mid-range Navi 48 reportedly performs faster than the cut-down RDNA 3 Navi 31 while lagging behind the top Navi 31 GPU. For reference, the RX 7900 XTX employs the top Navi 31 die while the cut-down version is featured inside the RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 GRE (Available on Amazon).

Over on the NVIDIA side, the purported Navi 48 performance should eclipse the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER.

Moving on to Navi 44, @All_The_Watts alleges a GPU that is comfortably ahead of Navi 33 (RX 7600 XT) and lags behind Navi 32 (RX 7800 XT). This class of performance should bring the Navi 44-based boards in the same range as the RTX 4070 and the RX 7700 XT (Available on Amazon).

These latest claims match the assertions previously made by Moore’s Law Is Dead.

Strix Halo performance

In addition to Navi 48 and Navi 44, @All_The_Watts also suggests the performance of other AMD products including Strix Halo.

Strix Halo is AMD’s next-generation APU that could launch early next year with up to 16 Zen 5 cores and an RDNA 3+ iGPU with up to 40 Compute Units. Per the leaker, Strix Halo with its 20 WGP iGPU operating at 3 Ghz outperforms Navi 33. This is quite big if true, since Team Red’s most powerful iGPU, the Radeon 780M, is far from the performance of the RX 7600 XT (Available on Amazon).

As always, take these leaks with a grain of salt as these are but unconfirmed details of products that are yet to launch.
