Asus announces ROG MJOLNIR portable gaming power station, insists it's no April Fools' joke
Last year, Asus announced the ROG Ally (curr. $399.99 on Best Buy) handheld gaming PC on the very first day of April. Naturally, everyone believed it to be a joke, but the company later confirmed the device's existence and subsequently launched it. This year, Asus seems to be going on a similar track by announcing the ROG MJOLNIR for gamers.
Asus hasn't revealed much about it other than saying that it's not an April Fools' joke. But from the teaser image, it's clear that the ROG MJOLNIR, if it's indeed not a joke, is a portable gaming power station. The picture revealed that it sports four power outlets, two USB Type-C, and two USB Type-A ports.
As the name suggests, the Asus ROG MJOLNIR is inspired by Norse mythology. To be precise, its design is similar to Thor's legendary hammer. While this naming and design may give off an April Fools' joke vibe, the company does already have a Thor power supply lineup.
Although Asus didn't go into the specifics of the design, it does appear that the handle of the ROG MJOLNIR can double as a torch. As the supposed power station is built for outdoor gaming, the inclusion of a light source does make sense. The teaser image also shows a display on the front and usual ROG-themed outlooks.
Other than that, the company said that it would be fully unveiling the ROG MJOLNIR power supply at Computex 2024. That event is set to take place in Taiwan from the coming June 4 to June 7.
