Steam: Very popular Rougelike RPG reduced by 90 percent

Darkest Dungeon was developed by the independent development studio Red Hook Studios and released on January 19, 2016. The roguelike RPG was very well received by players. On Steam, Darkest Dungeon has 91 percent positive ratings from over 115,000 opinions. Until April 8, Steam is offering is offering the game with a 90 percent discount for 2.50 instead of 25 $. The Ancestral Edition bundle which includes the main game, the soundtrack and four DLCs, is also available at a significantly lower price: with an 86 percent discount for 7 instead of 53 $.

Dark story, difficult gameplay

In Darkest Dungeon, players inherit an estate that is haunted by supernatural forces. The task: assemble a group of adventurers, venture deep into the ruins beneath the estate, fight the horrors lurking there and save the land from corruption. In addition to a dark atmosphere, Darkest Dungeon offers a complex narrative that explores uneasy themes such as madness and despair.

In terms of gameplay, Darkest Dungeon is a mixture of roguelike, dungeon crawler and strategy game. Players recruit and manage a team of heroes with different skills - including crusaders, bounty hunters and occultists - and fight their way through dangerous dungeons that are procedurally generated and constantly changing. The turn-based battles can be quite difficult at times - and if a hero dies, he stays dead. So players have to live with losses.

Another challenge is the stress system, which simulates the psychological strain on the characters. Heroes can build up stress through combat and exploration, which can lead to a range of psychological states that affect performance. For example, characters can be paranoid, hopeless or anxious.
