Switch: 9 new games coming to the Nintendo console in April
As Nintendo announced on March 26, at least nine new games will be coming to the Switch in April. The releases are spread over the entire month. We provide an overview and reveal what players can expect from the individual games.
Freedom Planet 2 - April 4
An action platformer that takes players to the colorful world of Avalice. The story follows heroines Lilac, Carol and Milla as they team up once again to defend their homeland from a new threat. Players can switch between the different characters, benefit from their unique abilities and fight epic boss battles. With fast-paced combat and challenging levels, the game offers a nostalgic homage to classic 2D platformers.
Grounded - April 16
Grounded is a survival adventure about a group of youngsters who have been shrunk to miniature size after a mysterious accident and are fighting for survival in a backyard. The most dangerous enemies: insects. Players must gather resources, build bases and fight the creepy-crawlies as they search for a way to regain their normal body size.
Tales of Kenzera: ZAU - April 23
A Metroidvania game in which players take control of the young shaman Zau. In a mystical 2.5D world, Zau hunts the spirits of three monsters in order to offer them as sacrificial offerings to Kalangu, the god of death, and bring his deceased father back to life. The gameplay combines platform elements with rhythmic combat scenes. Zau has two weapons, the Sun Mask and the Moon Mask, which each offer unique abilities for melee and ranged combat and can be upgraded individually.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - April 23
A classic JRPG with turn-based battles. Players explore a detailed world, gather a party of over a hundred heroes with unique abilities and face off against a variety of enemies. The story follows Seign Kesling, a young officer of the Galdean Empire, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village. Together they face a growing danger that threatens to engulf not only their home, but the entire world.
Another Crab's Treasure - April 25
A Soulslike adventure game in which you play Krill - a hermit crab who reclaims his repossessed home in a polluted ocean. Players use trash as resources and weapons as they battle the mysterious "Gunk" infection and other dangers. The game combines combat and platforming elements and offers customizable difficulty levels.
SaGa Emerald Beyond - April 25
A standalone expansion to the SaGa series that promises to bring together the best elements of the game series. Players explore 17 unique worlds connected by a realm called "Beyond". There are six main protagonists to choose from, each with their own story to tell. In terms of gameplay, SaGa Emerald Beyond relies on a turn-based combat system in which players must choose strategic formations and manipulate the timeline.
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Sweep the Board! - April 26
A Switch-exclusive, digital board game based on the popular manga and anime series "Demon Slayer". Players choose characters from the series' extensive roster and move around game boards depicting famous locations from the anime. There are various events that influence the gameplay - such as recruiting allies or collecting items that either help the player or hinder other players. The goal: to become the most powerful demon hunter.
El Shaddai ASCENSION OF THE METATRON HD Remaster - April 28
A refreshed version of the original action-adventure game from 2011, players control Enoch, a celestial scribe sent to Earth to find and bring fallen angels to justice. Gameplay combines platforming elements with hack-and-slash combat and relies on dynamic perspective adjustment - from 2D sidescrolling to 3D exploration.
Braid - Anniversary Edition - April 30
Braid is an award-winning puzzle platformer best known for its deep narrative. Players take control of the character Tim, whose special ability is to manipulate time. Tim travels through different worlds to rescue a princess who has been kidnapped by an evil monster. The Anniversary Edition of the game, first released in 2008, features new puzzles, improved sound and hand-drawn graphics.
