Nintendo has been hot on piracy of late, having forced the developers behind popular Switch and 3DS emulators to cease operations with immediate effect. While Tropic Haze also settled with Nintendo to the tune of $2.4 million, its Nintendo Switch emulator has already returned under a different guise. Separately, a project with apparent ties to the infamous Gary Bowser has been selling a Switch flashcart dubbed the MIG Switch since the start of the year.
Ultimately, the MIG Switch has its limitations, which the likes of Retro Game Corps has covered in dedicated videos. In short, the MIG Switch will only run full cartridge dumps rather than NSP or XCI files alone. Thus, its utility is more limited than initial expectations.
Now, MIG Switch has begun shipping the MIG Switch Dumper, which it currently sells for $68.24 or $131.24 with the MIG Switch. As its name suggests, the MIG Switch Dumper allows the extraction of all files from a Switch cartridge for use with the MIG Switch. According to Taki Udon, the MIG Switch and MIG Switch Dumper contain the same hardware, including an ESP32 microcontroller and a Lattice FPGA.
Additionally, the same YouTuber's video demonstrates that it is possible to actually play Switch cartridges using a MIG Switch Dumper. Based on the video below, Switch emulators recognise a cartridge inside the MIG Switch Dumper as a valid game, just as they were a ROM file. Theoretically, this makes the MIG Switch Dumper compatible with any device that has a USB Type-C and a Switch emulator, such as the Steam Deck. Please see Taki Udon's video below and the MIG Switch Dumper product page for more information.
