The MIG Switch is a new flashcart for the Nintendo Switch. Potentially, the MIG Switch could open the Switch to all manner of unlicensed software, including pirated ROMs.

At the end of last year, we opined on the utility of a flashcart for the Nintendo Switch and whether it could give the console a 'new lease of life'. Since then, details of a flashcart called MIG Switch or MIG-Switch have been circulating online with links to the infamous Gary Bowser. For reference, MIG Switch announced its eponymous device in December and not this month.

At any rate, the MIG Switch is said to be capable of playing ROMs regardless of their source, hence the stir that it has caused in some circles despite the following disclaimer on the company's website:

Mig-Switch does not approve the use of its device with ROMs of games that you do not own, downloaded from the internet or owned by a friend or any outside source. Beside the fact that it is illegal, it will void our warranty and support.

Supposedly, MIG Switch will start shipping units later this year in small batches. For now, it is unclear who sits behind MIG Switch. Instead, its website only states that it is product 'developed and produced in the Russian Federation'. Nonetheless, various sources have discovered links between MIG Switch and Gary Bowser, which Modern Vintage Gamer has summarised in the video below. Unsurprisingly, Bowser denied any involvement, a reproduction of which is as follows:

I was the subject of DNS poisoning attack on my nameservers, I repaired the damage and changed all my passwords, but sadly people will talk, not what I needed just before Christmas... And also just a day after someone was threatening me via Skype, demanding I send them $1,000 per month for next 40 months, or they would leak a bunch of shit. I am not going to engage the trolls or comment on it.
