CES 2024 | Samsung SmartThings teams up with Tesla
Samsung Electronics has just announced a new integration to link Tesla products with its already robust SmartThings Energy platform. As part of its Net Zero Home project, the company has become the first to take advantage of Tesla's open APIs to expand its energy monitoring capabilities.
We are pleased that Samsung has chosen to be an early developer, given its leading position in consumer smart home technology"
– Drew Baglino, VP of Tesla
What this means for users of Tesla products such as Powerwall home batteries, solar inverters, wall connectors and EVs is that they can now use SmartThings Energy to track their energy consumption, storage, and carbon emissions.
With this data readily available, Tesla users can rest assured that a power outage wouldn't catch them unprepared. The Powerwall app, for instance, has a dedicated "Storm Watch" feature to forecast extreme weather conditions. With this new collaboration, SmartThings Energy will be able to access this information so users can receive alerts on their TVs or smartphones. In addition, the API integration will allow SmartThings users to apply AI Energy Mode to their Tesla Powerwall in the event of a power outage; prolonging the backup power supply.
Similar to its integration with Hyundai and Kia vehicles, Samsung notes that the integration with Tesla products is still in development. Samsung plans to simulate the SmartThings Energy connection with Tesla Powerwall at CES 2024. However the service is not expected to be generally available until the second quarter of this year
