After months of relying on the limited energy tracking experience offered by Matter, Android users now have access to all the features of the Eve Energy smart plug, courtesy of its SmartThings integration.

Eve Systems has just announced a new collaboration with Samsung to improve its SmartThings integration. This comes as an upgrade for Android users who previously could only perform basic power on and off scheduling.

Although Eve devices migrated to Matter seven months ago, the smart home standard has been slow to provide support for energy monitoring. That doesn't pose much of a challenge to iPhone users who have the benefit of Apple Home and the Eve iOS app. However, there is no dedicated Eve app for Android. As a result, non-iOS users to be content with the limited functionality provided by Matter-enabled smart home apps available on the PlayStore.

Last year Eve Energy announced that it would release an Android app in 2023, but it appears that plan has been shelved. Instead, Eve devices will now use the SmartThings integration from Samsung to bring its energy monitoring capabilities to Android users.

This means Android users can now take full advantage of the Eve Energy smart plug and power meter to monitor their energy usage and costs, as well as schedule automatic power on/off. SmartThings also has a new AI Energy Mode which intelligently keeps track of all variables and responds to slight changes such as when a refrigerator is opened or when the room temperature dips.

Eve's devices remain Thread-based and fully compatible with Matter. However, until Matter is ready to update its features, the SmartThings partnership is the best way Android users can access the unique energy tracking features of Eve devices
