IKEA reveals plans to launch new Matter-compatible products
IKEA has provided more information about the Matter compatibility of its smart home range. The company announced last year that it wanted the DIRIGERA hub to become a Matter bridge, though it did not provide further details. Now, pages in the customer service section of the IKEA websites in the UK, France and Sweden have confirmed the brand’s commitment to the network standard.
On the UK page, IKEA reaffirmed its intentions to add Matter support to the DIRIGERA and any ZigBee devices connected to the smart home hub. The company also states that it intends to offer Matter-compatible products at a later date, though a more specific timeframe has yet to be given. IKEA is part of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the group behind the Matter protocol, designed to allow smart home products made by different companies to work together.
Integrations in the IKEA Home smart app already allow you to control the brand’s smart home products with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri voice commands. Plus, the devices can be added to your existing Apple Home or Google Home, though users have historically reported issues with this functionality. It remains unclear precisely when IKEA intends to bring Matter compatibility to the DIRIGERA Hub for smart products or when it could release any out-of-the-box Matter devices.
