Two new IKEA smart plugs are reportedly on their way to the US. These gadgets would allow users to turn regular household appliances, such as a lamp or coffee maker, into smart devices that can be controlled remotely.
FCC filings have appeared for the pair of “Plug Smart” products. The first has the product name INSPELNING and model number E2205, while the second is TRETAKT and has the model number E2220. Both gadgets will support 2.4 GHz ZigBee wireless technology and appear identical aside from their shape. The TRETAKT seems to measure around 50 x 40 mm (~2.0 x 1.6-in), while the INSPELNING is wider at about 65 x 40 mm (~2.6 x 1.6-in). This makes them both smaller than the existing TRADFRI Wireless control outlet, which is 98 mm (~3.9-in) wide and 54 mm (~2.1-in) tall.
Presumably, like for the TRADFRI smart outlet, these new models will link to the DIRIGERA hub, allowing you to control the gadgets connected to the plugs via the IKEA Home smart app. You can also set timers for single or multiple TRADFRI smart plugs in the app. Plus, the device can be linked to other smart home products and controlled via a wireless dimmer, remote control or voice commands. It is unclear when the IKEA INSPELNING and TRETAKT smart plugs could arrive or how much they would cost. As an indication, the TRADFRI Wireless control outlet, smart, retails for US$14.99.
