The SwitchBot Lock Pro has been unveiled and is now available in Japan. As with the standard version of the smart lock, there are 15 unlocking methods, including fingerprint, app, voice control, NFC, Apple Watch, and password. The accompanying app lets you remotely control the lock and receive alerts for intruders and low battery. Plus, the Pro is compatible with Matter, allowing it to integrate with various smart home ecosystems.
Several differences exist between the new Pro model and the original SwitchBot Lock. A new microcurrent unlocking tool means that you can still open the door if the battery is effectively dead and you need to leave the house. Another improvement is a longer battery life of nine months compared to the six months the standard model offers. Alternatively, you can buy a rechargeable battery for the Pro, increasing the time between charges to 12 months. While the regular version has a slim twist knob, the Pro has a round knob, allowing you to unlock and open the door in one motion. Plus, a magnetic sensor enables the door to lock automatically, which the company claims is more reliable and safer than the timer equivalent.
The grip design of the Pro means it can adapt to suit 99% of twist knobs, whereas the regular smart lock comes in three sizes. SwitchBot also suggests that the 3M adhesive is more effective on the new model thanks to an increased tape area. You can buy the SwitchBot Lock Pro in Japan for ¥15,980 (~US$107). It is unclear whether or when the product will roll out to other markets.
