A few days ago, Sony released firmware version 9.0.0 to all PlayStation 5 consoles, not just those operating on its beta program. Now, the company has started distributing its next beta build, albeit only to a few beta participants so far. While we have not tested the new beta build ourselves, YouTuber Mystic has already outlined all the changes that Sony has pushed to the PlayStation 5 in the video embedded below.
Primarily, the company has revamped the Explore tab, which has received a few changes over the years. This time, Sony has added new widgets but only for consoles in the US for the time being. For example, the new software includes a widget showing the console's current memory usage. Additionally, the PlayStation 5 can now show recently captured screenshots and videos in the same widget, as well as which controllers and accessories are connected. For reference, the latter widget also displays the remaining battery percentages of connected accessories.
Moreover, there are other widgets covering your friends list and their recent activities, your PlayStation Store wishlist and new PlayStation Plus games, among other things. Eventually, these widgets will be personalisable. Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to re-arrange them or change which are shown. For now, Sony has not revealed when it intends to ship a new stable PlayStation 5 update. With that being said, the company is rumoured to be lining up firmware version 10.0.0 for an autumn release alongside the PlayStation 5 Pro. Please see Mystic's video below for more details, such as the option to set a custom wallpaper.
