Sony releases new PlayStation 5 update for all consoles that also brings improvements to DualSense controllers
Sony is now rolling out firmware version 9.0.0 to all PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles, a major new update that introduces various new features. For context, Sony released the update to beta testers over a month ago, details of which we have covered separately. As usual, it could take a few days before the software reaches your console, with Sony electing to issue updates in batches rather than all at once.
Primarily, firmware version 9.0.0 brings improvements to the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. For example, the pair's built-in speakers should get much louder after updating to Sony's latest software. According to the company's press release, it decided to increase the controllers' maximum volume to make voice chats and sound effects more intelligible, which dovetails with digital noise cancellation integration that Sony has also bundled within firmware version 9.0.0.
Additionally, the new update adds interactive screen sharing, an example of which we have embedded below. In short, this is intended to allow spectators to interact with a player using emojis and mouse gestures while watching a PS5 livestream through the official PlayStation App. Please note that this new feature can be disabled locally. Moreover, Sony has finally added the option of adjusting the PS5's status LED, as the other image below shows. More details about firmware version 9.0.0 and its distribution can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
