Baldur's Gate 3 is undoubtedly one of the best cRPGs in the history of gaming. It makes the labyrinthine concepts of DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) accessible to new players and offers near-infinite replayability with its character customization and branching storylines. While you can easily get hundreds of hours out of Baldur's Gate 3, those looking forward to new content will be sorely disappointed.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed at GDC (via Gamedeveloper.com) that the studio is moving away from Baldur's Gate 3 and the entire DnD franchise in general, effectively handing back its reigns to its parent company (Wizards of the Coast). Larian won't be developing Baldur's Gate 4 or any story-driven DLC for Baldur's Gate 3. For now, there's no telling where the franchise's future lies, at least until Wizards of the Coast makes an announcement.
Larian's departure from Baldur's Gate 3 might not necessarily be bad. It will allow the studio to develop its IP, maybe even a sequel to the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin II. The game sold over 10 million copies since launch, meaning Larian has all the resources it needs to focus on its next banger, which could be "the very big RPG that will dwarf them all". In an X post, Vincke says gamers can be "very excited" for Larian's next tile.
