Clearly inspired by the popular Civilization franchise, Paradox Interactive's Millennia is a historical turn-based 4X game that covers the same time period but has enough of its own to make it stand out. Available as a vanilla release alongside a Premium Edition, it has moderate system requirements and starts at $39.99.

Announced in the second half of September 2023, Millennia launched yesterday via Steam. According to the official product page, this historical 4X strategy game "challenges your strategic skills and encourages new discovery and experimentation" during a 10,000-year period that starts with the dawn of humanity and goes all the way to "what if" scenarios set in the near future.

The standard version can be acquired for $39.99. The Premium Edition is $20 pricier and includes the following:

  • Exclusive Wolfpack Warband and Eagle Archers
  • Upcoming Ancient Worlds expansion (coming in Q3 2024)
  • The Atomic Ambitions expansion, set to arrive in Q4 2024

In addition to the above, the Expansion Pass bundle is available at 17% off, so it can be acquired for $24.88.

The game supports seven languages, namely English, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, and Polish. The list of system requirements includes a 64-bit processor and OS (at least Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 3 2300X and Windows 10 Home), as well as 8 GB RAM, 10 GB disk space, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon R9 380 graphics). The recommended configuration pushes the above higher to Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 590.

Those interested in such games who have a limited budget can currently take advantage of a 70% discount on Paradox Interactive's Europa Universalis IV, which is down to $11.99 on Amazon (online game code).
