Epic Games has announced its latest game giveaway. Running between today and April 4, the giveaway has shifted to an indie Metroidvania game that debuted in mid-2022 and typically costs $19.99.

The Epic Games Store has refreshed its free game of the week. To recap, the storefront offered Call of the Wild: The Angler and Invincible Presents: Atom Eve between March 21 and March 28, which replaced Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that was available a week beforehand. Now, the Epic Games Store has moved on to Islets, an indie Metroidvania game that Armor Games Studios released in August 2022.

While the Epic Games Store only lists Islets as being compatible with Windows, it is playable on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X consoles. For reference, Islets carries the following Windows system requirements:

Minimum Recommended
OS version Windows 7 Windows 10
CPU AMD Athlon 4450e/Intel Pentium E2180 or equivalent AMD A8-3850/Intel Core i3-3240 or equivalent
GPU AMD Radeon HD 4650/NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 or equivalent AMD Radeon R7 250/NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 or equivalent
RAM 4 GB 8 GB
Storage 1 GB 1 GB

Understandably, Islets is compared against Hollow Knight, one of the most popular and well-received recent Metroidvania games. In short, reviewers like The Escapist consider Hollow Knight to be a better title overall. With that being said, Islets averages 82/100 on Metacritic from nine reviewers. Islets will be free to download and keep until April 4 at 15:00 UTC.
