Samsung Odyssey OLED G8: High launch pricing revealed for new 4K and 240 Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor
Samsung has taken a step closer to releasing the new Odyssey OLED G8, also known as the Odyssey OLED G80SD. For reference, Samsung unveiled the new Odyssey OLED G8 shortly before CES 2024 alongside OLED G6 and OLED G9 models. Unfortunately, a release date for all three remains unknown.
However, B&H Photo Video has now revealed US launch pricing for the G80SD. Surprisingly, the monitor is considerably more expensive than its peers, despite relying upon the same underlying panel. Thus, the G80SD outputs natively at 4K (3,840 x 2,160) and 240 Hz across a 32-inch surface. Additionally, the monitor delivers 0.03 ms GtG response times, excellent colour accuracy but a matte finish. Moreover, Samsung has integrated DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 connections, as well as a USB hub.
According to B&H Photo Video, Samsung will sell the G80SD for $1,499.99, which make it between $200 and $550 more expensive than comparable alternatives like the Alienware AW3225QF, ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM, Gigabyte AORUS FO32U2, AORUS FO32U2P or MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED. Ultimately, it is unclear why the G80SD costs so much than its peers. With that being said, we would not be surprised if its SmartThings Hub and Smart TV OS were at play in this regard.
