Cooler Master has confirmed various details for a successor of sorts to the Tempest GP2711. Arriving later this year as the GP2712, the 27-inch monitor improves upon its predecessor with a 240 Hz refresh rate and 4x as many Mini LED local dimming zones.

TFTCentral has received information about Cooler Master preparing a successor to a gaming monitor that it announced last year. Specifically, the company has informed TFTCentral that there will soon be a newer alternative to the Tempest GP2711. With that being said, Cooler Master has not released the Tempest GP2711 yet, which makes it a new gaming option too.

According to TFTCentral, sales will begin imminently for the Tempest GP2711. Based on an official Amazon listing, it seems that the Tempest GP2711 is already shipping in the US. The same is true of its successor, which is expected to launch as the GP2712, presumably retaining its predecessor's 'Tempest' branding. Reportedly, the GP2712 will be available in Q3 2024, with production beginning at some point this quarter.

Moreover, TFTCentral claims that the GP2712 will retail for $549, $100 more than the Tempest GP2711. A few differences exist between the pair though, despite their similar pricing. On the one hand, Cooler Master has upped the refresh rate from 165 Hz to 240 Hz, albeit while maintaining a 2,560 x 1,440-pixel native resolution. On the other hand, the GP2712 contains 2,304 Mini LED local dimming zones, quadrupling the amount found in the Tempest GP2711. Thus, it should track that the GP2712 delivers higher peak brightness values than the Tempest GP2711, which Cooler Master rates at 600 nits SDR and 1,500 nits HDR.

Unfortunately, Cooler Master has not confirmed how bright the GP2712 will get. Still, the GP2712 will carry over its predecessor's reliance on VA technology. Likewise, the upcoming monitor will also measure 27-inches across, as its name suggests. Incidentally, TFTCentral recently revealed specifications for the GP27U2 too, another Mini LED gaming monitor that Cooler Master hopes to launch later this year.
