Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H review: Cream of the crop amongst RTX 4080 laptops
Power is something the 16-inch Legion Pro 7 doesn’t lack, with the GeForce RTX 4080 and Core i9-14900HX achieving some of their best results in the laptop. The remaining specs are great as well: 32 GB of RAM, Thunderbolt 4, a bright QHD+ display (Dolby Vision, G-Sync, 240Hz, 16:10 aspect ratio). Is this the ideal laptop for gamers and creators?

Made for gamers and creators, the 16-inch Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H is one of the most powerful laptops available right now. It pairs a Core i9-14900HX with either a GeForce RTX 4090 or RTX 4080 – we got our hands on a variant with the latter. Our review unit is a model meant for students and educators. Those who are eligible (e.g. students in schools or higher education institutions) can expect to pay around €3,000 (US$3,230) for the laptop.

The combination of a Core i9, an RTX 4080 (TGP of 175 watts, 12 GB of GDDR6 VRAM) and 32 GB of memory (DDR5-5600, dual-channel mode, two slots) equips the laptop to take on all sorts of performance-intensive applications, such as video editing, rendering and gaming. It is possible to game on the Legion at QHD and high to max settings. In some of our tests, the GPU delivered the best results we’ve seen from the RTX 4080 so far.

A speedy PCIe 4.0 SSD provides the storage necessary for a gaming laptop (1 TB) and keeps load times short. More storage can be added if the drive runs out of space: the notebook has room for a second PCIe 4.0 SSD. Though RAID support isn’t available.

The laptop lasted slightly more than six hours on a single charge (99.9 Wh) in our Wi-Fi test, which is a fairly decent result. One good thing is that the battery can be charged using a universal USB-C power adapter. One of the two USB-C ports (1x Thunderbolt 4, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2) supports Power Delivery. This means you don’t necessarily need to lug the bulky 330-watt charger with you when on the go.
