Gothic 1 remaster in Unreal Engine 4 free to play for owners of the original game on Steam
Until the Gothic 1 remake developed in Unreal Engine 5 by Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic, fans will probably have to wait a while longer. But if you can't wait to plunge into the dark world of Khorinis and beat up a few orcs, you can already let off steam in the fan remaster by modder Dmitry Kalyuzhny.
The remaster does not bring any gameplay changes, but gives Gothic 1 a new technical basis with the Unreal Engine 4. The port is primarily intended to ensure greater stability and better performance on modern PCs. After all, the original game from 2001 is more than 20 years old, which often leads to compatibility problems with newer hardware and current operating systems, including crashes, graphics errors and limited resolution options.

Play Fan Remaster for free - here's how
If you own the original version of Gothic 1 on Steam you can play the Fan Remaster for free. Simply right-click on Gothic 1 in the Steam library and then select the "Properties" tab. A new window will then open. Click on "Betas" and enter the access code "TheColonyisNotUnreal" under "Private Betas". Now just download the game files, install and start playing.
