Lenovo Legion C170 GaN charger debuts with 170W PD 3.0 fast charging

The Lenovo Legion C170 GaN charger has been launched in China as a slim laptop power adapter for everyday carry. Measuring 71 x 71 x 31 mm and weighing around 245 grams, the power adapter can deliver 170W of fast charging. Combined with the CtoSlim cable, it allows most of the recently launched Legion laptops to run in the "performance" mode.

Speaking of the CtoSlim cable, it bundles with the Legion C170 power adapter and has a built-in E-Mark chip. This chipset allows the setup to identify the connected laptop and ensure safe charging. However, that's not the only safety mechanism that Lenovo has implemented. The adapter also has over-current, over-voltage, short circuit, over-temperature, and many other protections.

Moreover, the Lenovo Legion C170 supports multiple charging protocols. That includes QC 3.0, PD 3.0, and PPS. With these, the GaN charger can not only power up laptops but also charge smartphones and tablets. Of course, in such cases, you would need to use a USB-C to USB-C cable, which doesn't appear to be bundled with the adapter (2-pack 6ft Anker 240W cable curr. $17.99 on Amazon).

Design-wise, the C170 looks similar to the C140 GaN charger that Lenovo recently refreshed. As mentioned earlier, it's reasonably light and compact, which should make it easier to carry the adapter around.

Regarding the price, the Legion C170 GaN power adapter has an introductory tag of CNY 249, which is around $34. Lenovo hasn't announced global availability yet, but it might soon be available through AliExpress and other third-party Chinese retailers.
