Ranking: Best laptops for under $800 dollars/euros
Q4 2024 update.
If price is the most important criterion when buying a new laptop, then this overview could be helpful. Here we list the top-rated and particularly inexpensive laptops in our tests in the price range under 800 euros.Christian Hintze (translated by DeepL / Ninh Duy) Published 🇩🇪 🇭🇺 ...
Notebookcheck also regularly tests selected devices from the lower price segment, which have to undergo the same extensive measurements and analyses as their premium counterparts. In the price range below 800 euros, there are individual representatives from a wide variety of brands, all vying for the favor of active bargain hunters. Customers are constantly being wooed with seemingly great figures about gigahertz and gigabytes, which means there is a particularly high risk of ignoring far more important skills of the devices. Here we only list devices based on Windows that have been extensively tested by us in recent months (test reports linked in the table).
In terms of price, we use the lowest street price at which the device was actually available at the time of the last article update. As limited-time offers and promotions play an important role in this competitive price range, prices may be adjusted upwards or downwards on an ongoing basis.

Note: The switch to a new rating system took place in June 2024. In the new v8 rating, the criteria were adapted to current hardware developments, new points were added and individual measurement methods were changed. As a result, the v8 ratings are slightly lower than under v7. The new v8 rating is not directly comparable with previous versions. Further information on the new v8 rating can be found here.

Editorial comment
Two new additions to our list just before Christmas, the surprisingly good Ninkear A16 Pro and the Lenovo 5 2-in-1 14AHP9. If you want something even cheaper, you should look at laptops that are older than 12 months.
1st place - Lenovo Yoga Slim 6 14APU8 (R5 7540U)
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 6 14APU8 is an almost all-round successful all-round notebook that doesn't have any major flaws if you don't have any particular demands on the GPU performance. The relatively frugal Ryzen processor is housed in a stylish and high-quality-looking casing, which is equipped with good input devices and (still) sufficient ports.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 6 14APU8 with Ryzen 5 7540U is a high-quality, compact and pleasantly light all-round notebook.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 6 14APU8 with Ryzen 5 7540U, Radeon 740M and OLED display is available for around 800 euros (e.g. from Amazon).

2nd place - Lenovo ThinkPad E16 (R5 7535HS, Radeon 660M)
The second edition of the simple ThinkPad E16 now offers decent graphics performance. And in other respects, the whole thing looks like a ThinkPad from the higher-end and correspondingly more expensive series - with a few decisive cuts.
An efficient, fast system for quiet working, but with compromises, especially in the display and keyboard.
The Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 2 with Ryzen 5 7535HS, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD that we tested is available at Campuspoint for just under 900 euros. The otherwise equally equipped E16 Gen 2 with Intel Core Ultra 5 125 U costs just under 70 euros more at Playox, for example. However, the all-time low price at Geizhals is less than 800 euros.
3rd place - Ninkear A16 Pro (R7 8845HS, Radeon 780M)
With the A16 Pro, Ninkear once again proves that it can offer an affordable and high-quality alternative to models from established brands. In the test, the A16 Pro impresses with a metal housing, a good display, good and above all constant performance, even on battery power, and quiet operation for relatively little money.
The Ninkear A16 Pro is convincing in many respects and, thanks to the mix of good and inexpensive components, gives the feeling that it is even better in the important areas than some higher-priced competitors.
The Ninkear A16 is listed on our rental site Geekmaxi for 799 euros. It is also available at TomTop for around 808 euros.
4th place - Ninkear A15 Plus (R7 5700U)
"Surprisingly good and affordable", was the headline of our author's test of the China banger. The Ninkear A15 Plus has more than enough power for everyday use, is quiet, has a powerful keyboard and an attractive light metal casing. Our version of the Ninkear A15 Plus is available from various retailers for a good 500 euros. In our test, the laptop is clearly a top performer in terms of price/performance, although there are some compromises to be made in some areas compared to the inexpensive device with AMD Ryzen 7.
The Ninkear A15 Plus proved to be a useful laptop for the home office in the test. Good performance meets an appealing design. The loudspeakers, WLAN and screen brightness have to be compromised.
Unfortunately, our 16+512 configuration of the Ninkear A15 Plus is currently out of stock almost everywhere. With 32 GB of RAM and a one TB NVMe SSD, the laptop currently costs at Tomtop 617 euros, with shipping from a German warehouse. This means there are no customs duties or similar charges in the EU.
5th place - Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 (R7 8845HS, Radeon 780M)
The latest IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 is one of the fastest devices in its size class thanks to the Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU. If you are looking for the best value for money when buying your next 14-inch notebook (convertible), this device from Lenovo could be just the thing for you.
The Ryzen 7 8845HS is a gaming processor that has now made it into a 14-inch budget convertible in the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1, and its performance is correspondingly high.
Lenovo now supplies the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9 directly from 550 US dollars (equivalent to around 520 euros) for the basic configuration. The tested configuration is also available from Amazon US for 820 US dollars (approx. 780 euros). In Germany, it is unfortunately more expensive and extremely rare to find it for less than 800 euros.
6th place - Acer Aspire 16 A16-51GM-77G2 (Core 7 150U, RTX 2050)
The 2024 Aspire 16 A16-51GM-77G2 for 799 euros combines a current, energy-saving Core 7 150U with an older RTX 2050. The result should be an inexpensive multimedia computer and all-rounder. The powerful RTX 2050 in the Aspire 16 shows that it still has its raison d'être and offers significant added value compared to even the latest integrated GPUs.
With its combination of the latest CPU and somewhat older GPU, which still performs well, the Aspire is actually a very powerful multimedia notebook that doesn't cost too much. However, its relatively poor IPS display is a bit of a handicap and for 899 euros there is plenty of competition, some of which is significantly better.
The current Aspire 16 in our test configuration is currently available from 749 euros, for example on Amazon.
7th place - SCHENKER Work 14 Base (Core i5-1235U)
With the Work 14 Base, Schenker has a simple office computer in its range that offers a bright IPS display as well as good maintenance options and many connections. The Intel Core i5-1235U offers sufficient performance for simple tasks.
The Schenker Work 14 Base is a simple office computer with an aluminum chassis, good maintenance options and a matte IPS display. However, you have to come to terms with a grainy picture impression and an overall low performance level.
The Schenker Work 14 Base can be ordered/configured at Bestware from 699 euros.
8th place - Acer Aspire Go 15 (i3-N305, UHD 32 EUs)
Alder Lake, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, FHD panel result in a simple office notebook for a small budget. Very good battery life and USB-C power delivery increase the appeal of the 15.6-inch laptop.
With the Aspire Go 15, Acer delivers an office notebook for a small budget that has revealed some weaknesses.
The Acer Aspire Go 15 AG15-31P is available from Notebooksbilliger.de at a price of 429 euros.
9th place - HP 250 G9 (i3-1215U, UHD 64EUs)
With the 250 G9, HP offers an affordable 15.6-inch office laptop that is equipped with a Core i3 processor from Intel and a matte IPS display for around 400 euros. The Core i3 processor in particular sets the laptop apart from other laptops in this price range, which are often only equipped with Celeron or Pentium chips.
An inexpensive laptop for the home office: HP's 250 G9 offers sufficient performance for everyday use with the Core i3 processor and the subjective image quality of the matte IPS panel is okay. However, the fan can quickly become annoying.
The test model of the HP 250 G9 is immediately available at Notebooksbilliger for 444 euros.
