Verdict – Strong performance, fair trade-offs
Finding a new and usable laptop for under €500 has become a rarity. This is where the Acer Aspire Go 15 steps in. If the old Windows 10 laptop finally needs to be replaced, our test device may already offer everything required. In most cases, a noticeable leap in performance compared with older machines should be evident. Upgrading to a modern platform with this notebook is therefore not only inexpensive, but also clearly more powerful.
For its affordable price, the Aspire Go 15 proves to be an unexpectedly capable laptop. The combination of a brisk Core i5 processor and 16 GB of RAM ensures consistently smooth operation. The bright and matte 16:10 display together with the long-lasting battery round off its strengths for productive use.
Of course, the low price requires compromises: The plastic chassis, the unlit keyboard, and the only moderate colour accuracy of the otherwise solid display are the most obvious drawbacks. However, anyone seeking a reliable and above all enduring companion for office tasks, study, or private browsing, and who can do without gaming or professional video editing, will find the Aspire Go 15 to be a price-performance package that is currently hard to beat.

While the Aspire Go 15 is listed on Amazon for around €556 (around $651 USD), it is significantly cheaper at Cyberport and Computeruniverse, where it sells for €499 (around $583 USD) and therefore comes in just under the €500 (around $584 USD) mark.
Specifications
Chassis and equipment
As an affordable everyday device, the Acer Aspire Go 15 comes in a plastic chassis. In the understated “Steel Gray” colour it still leaves a solid impression. The stability of the case is acceptable, and the hinges hold the screen firmly in place while still moving smoothly. A small but noticeable detail is the slight protrusion at the top edge of the display, which houses the 0.9 MP webcam. Its image quality is adequate for video calls, but it does not look particularly sharp or detailed.
There are no compromises when it comes to wireless connectivity. A Mediatek module is used here, supporting the modern WiFi 6E standard. This can also take advantage of the less congested 6 GHz band, which in practice ensures stable transmission speeds.
Sustainability
In principle, repairs on the device are possible, and components such as the SSD, RAM, or the WLAN module can be replaced. However, Acer does not appear to provide official service manuals. Well known sustainability certifications such as TCO or EPEAT are absent, but the manufacturer does publish a transparent PCF document. This specifies a carbon footprint of 302 kg CO₂e over the entire life cycle, with the lion’s share, namely 82.4 percent, coming from production. The packaging does contain plastic elements, but it is overall easy to recycle.
Input devices
The laptop uses a rubber dome keyboard without backlighting. Typing feels somewhat spongy at first, but after a short adjustment period text can be entered quickly. The touchpad is a positive feature. It is generously sized and offers a smooth surface that provides little resistance to the fingers while allowing precise input.
Display
The built-in 15.3 inch display with Full HD resolution leaves a solid impression. Thanks to IPS technology the viewing angles are stable, and it reaches a maximum brightness of around 320 cd/m². This is bright enough to allow outdoor use in combination with the matte surface, provided direct sunlight is avoided.
The colour reproduction is acceptable for a device in this price range. With coverage of 60 percent of the sRGB colour space, the notebook is not suitable for professional image editing, but it is more than adequate for everyday tasks such as browsing and office work. A major advantage is the absence of pulse width modulation. The response times are also on a level appropriate for everyday and office use.

Performance
For a laptop in the sub-€500 price range, the performance of the Acer Aspire Go 15 is surprisingly strong. The Intel Core i5 1334U processor, combined with 16 GB of modern RAM, delivers a responsive user experience. Compared with sibling models equipped with a Core i3 processor, the performance increase is clearly noticeable.
Processor
In everyday use with office applications and web browsing, the Core i5 1334U shows no weaknesses. The system remains consistently fast and responsive, even when several programs are running in parallel. With more demanding and compute intensive tasks such as video or extensive image editing, however, longer waiting times must be expected. Ultimately, the Core i5 can easily keep up with Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 processors from the new Lunar Lake generation, as our comparison shows.

Storage
A Kingston NVMe SSD is used for storage. In everyday operation it delivers good transfer rates, enabling fast system start ups and short loading times for programs. However, a drawback becomes apparent during prolonged read operations. In this case the storage controller quickly tends toward what is known as throttling. This means that performance drops noticeably in order to prevent overheating.

GPU performance
The Acer Aspire Go 15 is not designed for ambitious gamers. The performance of the integrated graphics unit is simply too weak for modern 3D titles. With current games this means that detail settings and resolutions need to be reduced significantly.

Noise emissions
The cooling system of the Aspire Go 15 is relatively active. The fans tend to spin up even under light loads, but their noise level always remains unobtrusive and does not develop into a disturbing hum. There is no manual control of the fan curves or dedicated performance modes as sometimes offered in manufacturer software.

The flip side of the active cooling is positive. The surface temperatures remain comfortably cool even under load. The palm rests in particular barely warmed up during testing, which allows for comfortable use.

Power consumption
In terms of power consumption, the notebook is as frugal as is typical for its class. However, one peculiarity becomes apparent under full load. During short performance peaks (boost), the included power adapter is pushed to its limit. There are then no reserves left to charge the battery at the same time. On the contrary, power is even drawn briefly from the battery to meet demand.
