Chief and Indians. In April, we reviewed a lot of smartphones and tablets - more than ever before. The HTC One from the Taiwanese company clearly stands out from the huge crowd of mid-range models. The pre-series Sony Xperia Tablet Z is an interesting model too.

Semi-outdoor-tablet. The Stylistic M702 is described by Fujitsu as "semi-ruggedized", and is both water and dust proof in accordance with IPX standards 5, 7 and 8. With the Tegra 3 from Nvidia familiar and potent hardware has been included, but whether or not it is able to come to terms with the harsh conditions of outdoor use remains to be determined.

Tablet made in China. The manufacturer Ainol is based in China and is now represented with extremely cheap tablets in the Western hemisphere as well. Like a brick on your ear. Samsung's Note kicked off the ongoing wave of large smartphones, aka phablets. Now, Asus joins in with its big 7-inch Fonepad, nominally a tablet to make phone calls. It will definitely attract attention when held to an ear - at least at present.

A balancing act. The Surface Pro is an interesting concept tablet that Microsoft developed to showcase the strength of the Windows 8 platform on a touch-capable device. Inexpensive remake. Between the release of the Toshiba AT300 and AT300SE there were just a few months. Mom, Dad and I. Sony's Vaio Tap 20 not only strikes with its exceptionally large tablet size but, unlike the rule, also sees the whole family as its target group. In order to fulfill the wishes of all family members, young and old, Sony installs strong hardware and the finger supportive Windows 8 in the 20-inch tablet. We exhaustively checked just how family-friendly this concept really is.

Overshadowed by the MWC. The Mobile World Congress is looming on the horizon and will take place in Barcelona at the end of February. However, we have already reviewed a few interesting devices. Record-breaking battery life. The 60 Wh battery the Dell Latitude 10 ships with is presumably one of the largest ones ever used to power a tablet. According to Dell, the result is a battery life of up to 30 hours. The business tablet is not without compromises, however.

Bargain tablet? At an RRP of 280 Euros (~$365), the Prestigio MultiPad 10.1 Ultimate 3G causes panic amongst the 10.1-inch competition, because no other tablet of this screen size is that affordable. In addition, the Prestigio MultiPad includes a 3G/HSDPA modem as a professional feature. Our review will reveal whether the performance is adequate despite the budget price.
