Verdict - A strong overall package with minor flaws for under $900
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x made a good and well-rounded impression in our test. The high-quality aluminum chassis, compact design, and solid features make this 14-inch laptop a versatile device. There is also little cause for criticism regarding the input devices: the keyboard and touchpad make for a comfortable working experience. The 120-Hz display is one of the ThinkBook 14x’s strengths. The high refresh rate ensures smooth visuals, while the matte finish reduces glare. In terms of brightness and color gamut coverage, however, the panel falls short of higher standards.
When it comes to system performance, the ThinkBook 14x impresses with its fast and responsive operation. The SSD delivers solid and consistent transfer rates, and there are no noticeable performance drops even under prolonged load. Only with very demanding applications does the storage configuration somewhat limit the platform’s performance. The integrated graphics are best suited for multimedia and less demanding games.
Although the cooling system operates quietly during normal use, noise levels increase significantly under heavier loads. On the positive side, performance remains largely stable, and temperatures remain within safe limits. For a price under $900, the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x offers a well-rounded package overall and scores particularly well with its high-quality build, smooth 120-Hz display, and excellent everyday performance with long battery life. The main drawbacks are the panel’s limited color gamut coverage and the increased noise levels under heavy load. Given the price range, however, the overall features are still impressive.

Specifications
Case, Features, and Input Devices
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x features a slim aluminum chassis that conveys a high-quality yet understated impression. Its compact design makes this 14-inch notebook well-suited for mobile use. In terms of connectivity, it offers several USB ports and an HDMI port, though it lacks a card reader and a wired Ethernet port. The keyboard is backlit and features a classic layout with comfortably large keys. It is complemented by a generously sized touchpad that responds precisely to input and enables comfortable operation. A Full HD webcam is integrated for video conferencing, which—depending on the configuration—may include an IR function for biometric login.
Display
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x is equipped with a matte 14-inch display in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The IPS panel offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels (WUXGA) and operates at a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This makes the display feel pleasantly smooth, especially when scrolling and during fast movements. Text and images are displayed sharply, while the IPS technology ensures consistent viewing angles. The matte finish reduces distracting reflections, making it practical for mobile use.
In terms of color reproduction, the panel achieves comparatively good Delta E 2000 values. While a lower value would be desirable for even more precise color reproduction, the deviation is still quite respectable for an office laptop. However, subsequent calibration with our measuring device did not improve the values any further. Overall, the display offers solid color reproduction, even if it does not fully meet the manufacturer’s specifications in terms of brightness and color accuracy.

Performance
Test Conditions
On the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x, the power profiles provided by Lenovo are directly linked to Windows’ power settings. The “Best Performance” profile was used for all benchmarks as well as for measuring performance and power consumption.
Processor Performance
The Intel Core Ultra 5 226V in the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x delivers sufficient performance for typical office applications and more demanding multitasking. The laptop also performs well in everyday use for image editing and similar productivity tasks. The cooling system ensures largely consistent performance without any significant drop in performance under prolonged load. However, multithread benchmarks show that current AMD Ryzen APUs sometimes achieve higher performance levels in this area. Overall, the ThinkBook 14x thus offers a balanced combination of computing power and everyday usability.

Storage device
The built-in Samsung NVMe SSD provides 512 GB of storage, offering sufficient capacity for Office applications, multimedia, and everyday use. It uses an M.2-2242 SSD, although the ThinkBook 14x also offers space for a longer M.2-2280 drive with an 80 mm form factor. In our tests, the SSD delivered solid performance and was able to maintain a largely consistent performance level even under prolonged load. There were no notable drops in transfer rates.

GPU and Gaming Performance
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x’s Intel Core Ultra 5 226V features integrated Intel Arc Graphics 130V with seven Xe2 cores. This provides sufficient graphics performance for everyday multimedia tasks, high-resolution video playback, and hardware-accelerated media processing. Even older or less demanding games can be played smoothly at low to medium detail settings. However, compared to more powerful iGPUs such as the Arc Graphics 140V or AMD’s Radeon 780M and Radeon 890M, its 3D performance is lower.

System noise
The cooling system of the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x operates efficiently overall and keeps noise levels at a comfortable level during everyday use. During simple office tasks, the fan often runs very quietly and is barely audible. Under heavier loads, the noise level does increase, but it remains within a moderate range. Even during extended use, we did not notice any noticeable drops in performance. In less performance-oriented power profiles, the cooling system operates even more quietly.

Temperature
The surface temperatures of the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x remain consistently within safe limits even under heavy load. In the stress test, the bottom panel—particularly the rear section—heats up, while the palm rest remains comparatively cool. A slightly elevated temperature can be felt in the center of the keyboard, but this does not impair typing comfort. Due to temperature constraints, the processor cannot consistently maintain its performance at the maximum power consumption of 37 watts. During the Cinebench R15 loop, we recorded a maximum temperature of 96 °C.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 39.4 °C / 103 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(+) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 39.1 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 39.2 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 30.1 °C / 86 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 31.8 °C / 89.2 F and are therefore cool to the touch.

Speakers
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x’s stereo speakers deliver clear and intelligible sound overall. Voices are reproduced clearly, and the maximum volume is more than sufficient for indoor use. In terms of sound quality, however, the speakers are somewhat subdued, as they lack volume and dynamics, particularly in the low-frequency range. Nevertheless, they are adequate for videos, video conferences, and occasional music playback.

Power Consumption and Battery Life
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x’s power consumption remains at a moderate level during idle operation and is generally reasonable for a compact 14-inch notebook. As expected, power consumption increases significantly under full load but stabilizes at a constant level after a short time. This means the platform remains comparatively efficient even under prolonged load. When used on the go, the ThinkBook 14x also benefits from its long-lasting battery, enabling extended, practical runtime. In the Wi-Fi test with reduced display brightness, the battery capacity easily lasts a full workday.
