Verdict — Covers All The Basics
As an affordable midrange subnotebook, the Dell 14 Plus doesn't offer much in the way of fancy bells and whistles or shiny eye-catching designs. Instead, it focuses on core features that budget-conscious users care including a modern CPU, high resolution IPS display with full sRGB colors, and a relatively thin-and-light build for easy transport. The processor alone is responsible for the long battery life and higher efficiency when compared to previous generation models.
A few drawbacks include the underperforming integrated GPU, average black-white response times, and the somewhat grainy matte panel. The system is therefore less than ideal when it comes to gaming, but even then it still plays far better than its predecessors running on Iris Xe graphics. The lack of a 1600p touchscreen option may also disappoint some users.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
Dell is now shipping the Dell 14 Plus as reviewed for $1100 USD. Alternatively, Amazon also has specific SKUs in stock.
The Dell 14 Plus succeeds last year's Inspiron 14 Plus 7440 series to be a budget-friendly midrange option designed for home multimedia or students. It shares major design features with the Inspiron as our review below will show.
Our test unit is a lower-end configuration with the Core Ultra 7 256V CPU and 16 GB of RAM for approximately $1100. Higher-end SKUs come with the Core Ultra 7 258V or Core Ultra 9 288V instead with double the RAM, but the 2.5K 90 Hz display remains constant across all current configurations.
Alternatives to the Dell 14 Plus include other 14-inch consumer clamshells like the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14 or HP Pavilion Plus 14.

Specifications
Case
The chassis has a lot in common with the Inspiron 14 Plus 7440 down to their materials, color scheme, and even dimensions. Perhaps the most notable difference lies in the hinges as the lid on the newer model can open the full 180 degrees whereas last year's model was limited to a maximum of ~150 degrees. There are also minor differences to the rear ventilation grilles and the logo on the outer lid. Otherwise, this still feels like an Inspiron despite having dropped the name.
Connectivity
Port options are decent with two USB-C ports and just a single USB-A port. The barrel AC adapter port that was present on older Inspiron models has been dropped to fully embrace USB-C charging.
Note that only one of the two USB-C ports supports Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort 2.1.

Maintenance
Sustainability
The top cover consists of 50 percent recycled aluminum while the fan housing consists of 25 percent recycled ocean-bound plastics. The palm rests bracket consists of 15 percent recycled steel.
The packaging uses no plastic for easier recycling.
Accessories And Warranty
The retail box includes a small (~11.1 x 5 x 2.8 cm) 65 W USB-C AC adapter and the usual paperwork. A one-year limited manufacturer warranty applies if purchased in the US.
Input Devices
Keyboard
The keyboard is essentially identical to last year's Inspiron 14 Plus 7440 down to feedback, font, and even secondary functions. The only visual difference is the dedicated Co-Pilot key that replaces the right Ctrl key.
Touchpad
Display
The 1600p display offers full sRGB colors, high contrast ratio for an IPS panel, and a 90 Hz refresh rate to be better than most displays on budget laptops. The main caveats here are the relatively slow black-white response times and the slightly grainy matte overlay. For browsing and video playback purposes, however, the drawbacks should have minimal impact on the viewing experience.

Performance
Testing Conditions
We set Windows to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below.
Processor
Raw CPU performance is most comparable to the older Core Ultra 7 155U. The main benefits of the newer Core Ultra 7 256V instead lie in performance-per-watt, the integrated NPU, faster RAM, and the improved integrated GPU.
Turbo Boost sustainability could be better; performance would drop by about 17 percent over time when running CineBench R15 xT in a loop as shown by our comparison graph below.

System Noise
The internal fan is generally lethargic and on the quiet side under most low-to-medium loads as is the case with most Lunar Lake-powered subnotebooks. The fan takes a while to really get going when higher loads are introduced, but it otherwise reaches a similar ceiling level as most other 14-inch competitors.

Temperature
Surface temperature hot spots when under load can reach up to 43 C on both the keyboard deck and bottom to be noticeably warmer than what we recorded on the HP Pavilion Plus 14 by a few degrees.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 43 °C / 109 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 42.6 °C / 109 F, compared to the average of 39.3 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 28.8 °C / 84 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 28.4 °C / 83.1 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.2 °C / 82.8 F (-0.2 °C / -0.3 F).

Power Consumption
Overall consumption is quite close to the Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 powered by the Core Ultra 7 165U even though our Dell 14 Plus offers significantly faster AI acceleration, RAM performance, and iGPU performance for increased performance-per-watt.
