Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 Laptop Review: Versatile business convertible that delivers on most fronts
Calculated business moves.
The Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 delivers good performance with its Intel Core Ultra 7 165U vPro processor while offering a solid set of features tailored for business professionals on the go. Dell even includes a robust array of tools to keep IT admins happy. However, improvements over its predecessor are incremental and its competitors, particularly the new Lenovo ThinkPad lineup, present equally compelling options.Vaidyanathan Subramaniam 👁 Published 🇹🇷 🇵🇱 ...
Verdict: Incremental, but welcome generational upgrade that gets many things right
The Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 comes across as a versatile and efficient convertible for business users on the move. The aluminum construction is sturdy without flexes and sharp corners, and the weight feels just about right.
Despite its slim design, the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 offers a solid set of connectivity options, and the Wi-Fi 7 WLAN card delivers impressive throughput. The keyboard and touchpad pose no hindrance to a satisfactory input experience.
The 60 Hz FHD+ IPS touchscreen is amenable for the typical business demographic with decent brightness, full sRGB color coverage, and no PWM. The Latitude 7450 2-in-1's overall performance is on expected lines for an Intel Core Ultra 7 165U-powered laptop, and Dell's design is able to ensure low emissions and conservative power draws.
However, there are several areas of concern as well. The webcam quality is passable but could certainly be better, considering the fact that the competition has already begun transitioning to 5 MP or higher sensors.
The initial performance we got from the device was quite poor, particularly in single-core tests, requiring a subsequent BIOS update for improvement. Still, the CPU struggles to sustain its 44 W PL2 in multi-core loads. This is something to keep in mind if you plan on running heavily multi-threaded applications.
You will need to thoroughly assess your business requirements and configure the purchase accordingly as there is nearly no scope for any internal changes, except swapping out the lone SSD.
While the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 does have many positives, there aren't too many compelling reasons that warrant an immediate upgrade from the Latitude 7440.

Dell introduced several upgraded Latitude models this year, featuring Intel Meteor Lake processors. Having previously reviewed the Latitude 9450 2-in-1, Latitude 7350 detachable and the Latitude 7350, we now take a look at the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 convertible, which is also available in a conventional laptop form factor.
The 2024 Latitude 7450 is Dell's upper midrange business offering that succeeds last year's Latitude 7440. Our review sample is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U vPro processor, together with 32 GB LPDDR5x-6400 RAM, a 14-inch FHD+ 60 Hz touch display, Wi-Fi 7, and a 57 Whr battery.
Specifications
Chassis and connectivity: Premium all-aluminum build with decent I/O
The Latitude 7450 2-in-1 features a sleek all-aluminum chassis that comes in a Titan Gray finish. In addition to this, the traditional laptop variant also comes in a magnesium construction with a River Blue finish.
The aluminum build feels sturdy and premium, without creaks or twists, and the chassis is largely fingerprint resistant. There is hardly any flex in the display or the keyboard deck. Hinges are sturdy and allow for the full versatility of the convertible form factor, though they seem a bit too rigid for easy rotation.
While the aluminum build tips the scales at 1.5 kg, the magnesium SKUs are considerably lighter at 1.3 kg.
Port selection on the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 is similar to what we've seen last year. Dell once again skimps on providing a dedicated Ethernet port, but the HDMI port gets an upgrade to version 2.1.
There is no micro SIM card slot in our test device, but you can optionally configure one if needed.
The Latitude 7450's Intel BE200 Wi-Fi 7 WLAN card delivers strong performance on both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands without transmission throttles.
Throughput in both these bands is nearly identical, with the 6 GHz band showing 3.6% faster receive speeds compared to the corresponding 5 GHz test.
Dell Optimizer allows utilizing two connections (wired and wireless) simultaneously for faster downloads.
Unfortunately, the WLAN card comes soldered and cannot be swapped out.

Dell offers only a 1080p webcam with the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 while the laptop variant can be configured with up to a 5 MP camera. Image quality is serviceable for video calls provided there is good ambient light.
An IR sensor is onboard in addition to a fingerprint reader on the power button for Windows Hello-based logins. A physical webcam privacy shutter is available as well.
Additionally, the Dell Optimizer app allows you to configure several Presence Detection features for enhanced privacy.
Sustainability
Dells emphasizes sustainability in marketing materials for the Latitude series. According to the company, the aluminum builds are composed of 50% recycled and 50% low-emission aluminum, while the magnesium options feature 90% recycled magnesium.
The power adapter housing is crafted from 95% post-consumer recycled plastic, and the internal thermal shield is made using 98% recycled aluminum.
Additionally, Dell assures that the Latitude series packaging is made entirely from recycled or renewable materials, all of which are 100% recyclable.
Input devices: Touchscreen with pen and ink support
The Latitude 7450 2-in-1 features a spill-resistant chiclet keyboard with a dedicated Co-pilot key. The keys offer decent travel and tactility, which lends to a very good typing experience. A 2-stage white backlight helps with legibility in the dark.
The 13.3 cm x 7 cm touchpad is largely unchanged from last year's offering. Clicks are firm with deep travel, though they sound a tad louder than preferred. The surface offers full support for Windows Precision gestures. The upper corners are difficult to click, but the lower half of the touchpad is very responsive.
Being a convertible, the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 comes with a touchscreen that recognizes 10-finger multi-touch and pen input. Dell doesn't offer a stylus in the box, but you can optionally purchase the Dell Active Pen PN5122W that offers 4,096 pressure levels for $40.
Display: 60 Hz FHD+ IPS panel with no PWM
Dell offers a 14-inch 16:10 FHD+ 60 Hz touch IPS display for the Latitude 7450 2-in-1. The regular laptop variant can be optionally configured with up to a QHD+ touch IPS panel. Unfortunately, as is the case with most business laptops, higher refresh rates still remain elusive to the Latitude lineup.
We observe a good 85% uniformity in brightness distribution with minimal backlight bleed. The glossy surface can be distracting with direct incident light, however.

The display offers a good viewing experience thanks to its full coverage of the sRGB spectrum and decent Adobe RGB and Display P3 coverages.
The BOE panel in our unit offers acceptable DeltaE 2000 values out-of-the-box. Our calibration routine using the X-Rite i1Basic Pro 3 spectrophotometer and Calman Ultimate software from Portrait Displays helps further tighten Grayscale and ColorChecker DeltaE 2000 values.
However, the panel still suffers from large deviations in the 100% Blue part of the spectrum.

The glossy display can make viewing under direct sunlight a bit irksome. Viewing angles are relatively stable with no major loss of brightness or color information at the extremes.
Performance: Core Ultra 7 165U vPro struggles sustaining 44 W PL2 for long
The Latitude 7450 2-in-1 can be configured with either the Intel Core Ultra 5 135U vPro or the Core Ultra 7 165U vPro.
Additional CPU options such as the Core Ultra 5 125U, Core Ultra 7 155U, and the 28 W Core Ultra 7 165H vPro are available for the traditional laptop form factor.
Testing conditions
Dell offers four performance modes to choose from via the Dell Optimizer app, which is a separate download and isn't part of the factory image.
We used the Ultra Performance mode for all benchmarks and the Quiet mode for battery life tests. It is also possible to sync Dell Optimizer performance profiles with Windows power modes.

Processor
The Latitude 7450 2-in-1's Core Ultra 7 165U performs on par with average scores for this processor.
Of note here is that the device performed rather poorly in single-core benchmarks with the shipping BIOS version. We encourage users to update to the latest 1.60 version or above that fixes this problem.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 G9 with the same CPU is able to match the Latitude's cumulative performance despite operating at a lower 40 W PL2.
Nonetheless, the Latitude 7450 2-in-1 does perform marginally better than the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 in Geekbench 6.3 single-core and cumulative AIDA64 tests.
We observe CPU throttling in the Cinebench R15 multi-core loop similar to what was observed previously with the Latitude 7440 featuring a Core i5-1345U.

Analyzing CPU metrics during the Cinebench R15 multi-core loop shows that the Latitude 7450 2-in-1's Core Ultra 7 165U can momentarily utilize 47.5 W while attaining 3.27 GHz peak clocks at the start of the run.
Although the CPU attempts to maintain power levels between 40 W and 45 W at the beginning of most loops in the test, it struggles to sustain this and eventually declines to an average of 22 W, resulting in average 2.28 GHz clocks. We see this pattern reflect in our multi-core power consumption tests as well, which we will come to shortly.
Notable drops in power and clock speeds occur in the 9th loop before recovering, which aligns with the dip in scores observed on the loop graph above.
Cinebench R20 multi-core score drops by 29.8% on battery, while single-core performance remains more or less similar.
