Verdict — Optimized For Conferencing And Basic Office Tasks
Whether or not Qualcomm Snapdragon is for you depends on your needs. The EliteBook 6 G1q 14 is optimized for Co-Pilot+, 5G WAN and HP Go connectivity, AI-enhanced webcam features, and excellent CPU performance for the price when running ARM-native applications. For more specialized or GPU-heavy applications, however, compatibility is not guaranteed and performance can be slower than expected through emulation.
The hardware surrounding the CPU is otherwise excellent especially for a base model EliteBook. Battery life and fan noise in particular are generally longer and quieter, respectively, than most solutions from Intel or AMD. We recommend selecting your display options carefully as there are significant differences between configurations with or without Sure View or if choosing 2560 x 1600 over 1920 x 1200.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
Amazon is now shipping the HP EliteBook 6 G1q 14 as configured in this review for $1345 USD. Alternatively, users can customize and purchase directly from HP starting at $1161.
The EliteBook 6 series directly replaces the older EliteBook 600 series to be the go-to budget range for businesses and offices. The series is available in Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm variants appropriately called the G1i, G1a, and G1q, respectively.
Our EliteBook 6 G1q 14 test unit is a middle Qualcomm configuration with the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 CPU, 1200p IPS display, and 32 GB of soldered RAM for approximately $1345 USD. Other SKUs come with the slower Snapdragon X X1-26-100 or the faster Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 alongside additional display resolutions of up to 1600p.
Competitors to the EliteBook 6 include other business subnotebooks like the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 7, Dell Pro 14 Plus, or Asus ExpertBook B5.

Specifications
Case
Chassis design and quality remain strong even though the EliteBook 6 is essentially one of the least expensive models in the family. The keyboard deck, bottom cover, and outer cover consist of aluminum instead of plastic and so the system still feels like a proper EliteBook and not a cheaper Pavilion. The hinges are also fairly taut up to the full 180 degrees.
Connectivity
There is an impressive number of integrated ports for this entry-level EliteBook model. HDMI, RJ-45, and multiple USB-A ports are all present whereas the much pricier EliteBook Ultra G1q is missing many of these staples.

Webcam
Our test unit comes equipped with a 2 MP webcam and physical shutter, but higher-end configurations are available with both IR and a higher resolution 5 MP webcam.

Sustainability
Chassis consists of 50 percent recycled metal and 20 to 50 percent recycled or ocean-bound plastics. The packaging is mostly paper and cardboard with a bit of plastic wrapping for the AC adapter.
Accessories And Warranty
There are no extras in the box. The usual one-year limited manufacturer warranty applies if purchased in the US.
Input Devices
Despite being one of the cheaper EliteBook models, the system still feels great to type on with satisfying feedback and travel for each key. The keyboards on pricier models like the EliteBook Ultra G1q have higher quality keycaps with a slightly different layout for the arrow keys.
Display
Five display options are available as follows. Our specific test unit comes configured with the bolded option.
- 1920 x 1200, IPS, 300 nits, 60 Hz, non-touch
- 1920 x 1200, IPS, 300 nits, 60 Hz, touch
- 1920 x 1200, IPS, 400 nits, 60 Hz, non-touch
- 1920 x 1200, IPS, 800 nits, 60 Hz, Sure View, non-touch
- 2560 x 1600, IPS, 400 nits, 120 Hz, 100% DCI-P3, non-touch
This option offers full sRGB colors albeit with relatively slow black-white response times, no factory color calibration, and only a 60 Hz refresh rate. Touchscreen options are limited to only the lower-end 300-nit panel while the super-bright panel is tied to Sure View only. For basic browsing, streaming, and amateur image editing, however, our 400-nit panel with sRGB colors is sufficient.

* ... smaller is better
The panel is only decently calibrated out of the box with its overly warm color temperature and relatively low average deltaE grayscale and color values of 4.0 and 3.31, respectively. While not bad for a budget business laptop, an end-user calibration can be more difficult as the X-Rite software is not currently compatible with ARM machines.

Performance
Testing Conditions
We set Windows to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below.
Processor
Direct CPU performance comparisons to typical x86 laptops can be difficult. If the app runs natively on Windows ARM, then our Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 can outperform even the Lunar Lake Core Ultra 7 258V by over 30 percent in raw multi-threaded workloads. If the app must be emulated, however, then our Snapdragon CPU can perform up to 25 percent slower to be on par with an older U-series CPU like the Ryzen 5 7530U.
Upgrading to the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 from our Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 is expected to boost performance by 10 to 15 percent while downgrading to the Snapdragon X X1-26-100 is expected to entail a 15 percent performance hit.

GPU Performance
Graphics performance is one of the weaker aspects of the system. The integrated Adreno X1 is outperformed by even the midrange Arc 130V or Radeon 860M series on competing subnotebooks especially since many GPU-intensive apps must run emulated on the system.

Emissions
System Noise
The system remains very quiet even when running medium loads like browsing, multitasking, and video streaming whereas the fans in most Intel or AMD systems would pick up in speed much sooner. If the CPU is fully stressed, however, fan noise can reach just over 40 dB(A) which is a similar ceiling for most subnotebooks.

Temperature
Surface temperatures are noticeably warmer on the left half of the chassis near the processor. Hot spots can reach around 40 C which is only slightly cooler than what we recorded on the Intel-powered ThinkPad E14 Gen 7.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 37.2 °C / 99 F, compared to the average of 34.3 °C / 94 F, ranging from 21.2 to 62.5 °C for the class Office.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 42.4 °C / 108 F, compared to the average of 36.8 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 22.5 °C / 73 F, compared to the device average of 29.5 °C / 85 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 26.4 °C / 79.5 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 27.6 °C / 81.7 F (+1.2 °C / 2.2 F).

Power Consumption
The Snapdragon-powered EliteBook is expectedly very efficient especially when running common day-to-day workloads like browsers or video. It can be more demanding than a Core Ultra 7 258V system like the ThinkPad T14 G6 when the CPU is fully stressed, but it offers faster performance at the same time for a similar level of performance-per-watt.
We're able to record a maximum draw of 69 W from the small (~8.9 x 5 x 2.8 cm) 65 W USB-C AC adapter.
