Verdict - ThinkBook 16p G6 convinces as a multimedia laptop
With the ThinkBook 16p G6, Lenovo offers a very good 16-inch laptop for multimedia users and content creators. There are many similarities with the Legion series and overall, the tested Intel model is convincing in almost every respect. This starts with the sturdy aluminum casing with extensive connections and a good keyboard, and the maintenance options are also very good. The new WQHD panel is also almost completely convincing, but you should calibrate it before editing images. It is also more efficient than the 3.2K panel of the predecessor, which is why the battery life is now also significantly better.
The CPU performance of the Intel HX chip is very good and HX processors from AMD are also available as an option. Lenovo has installed the fastest version of the mobile RTX 5060 including Advanced Optimus and G-Sync, which is why you can also play excellent games on the device. Finally, the very good speakers are also impressive.
You have to look a little harder to find any points of criticism. If you consider the business orientation of the ThinkBook series, you can criticize the missing Ethernet port and the short warranty period of one year is not ideal, but at least it can be extended to 5 years. The fans are also quite loud when the full performance of the components is called up, but this is no different with the competitors and thanks to the various energy profiles, you can actually always enjoy a quiet system if you want.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The test device is available at Campuspoint for 1,939 Euros (~$2270). The ThinkBook 16p G6 can be configured at Lenovo from 2,079 Euros (~$2434).
Lenovo's ThinkBook series is associated with affordable office computers, but the ThinkBook 16p with its powerful hardware is aimed at multimedia customers or creators. There are also clear references to the Legion gaming laptops. We test the ThinkBook 16p G6 model with the intel Core Ultra 7 255HX, matte QHD IPS panel with 240 Hz, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and the RTX 5060 laptop for an RRP of 1,939 Euros (~$2270 or 1,789 Euros/~$2095 in the Campus program).
Specifications
Case & equipment
The case of the ThinkBook 16p G6 combines the typical silver-colored design of ThinkBooks with the construction of a Legion 7. The surfaces are not particularly susceptible to fingerprints and the stability of the aluminum case is very good. The base unit and the lid are stable, there are no creaking noises and the hinges (max. 180 degrees) also do a good job.
The ThinkBook offers sufficient USB ports including Thunderbolt 4 and a modern Wi-Fi 7 module with stable transfer rates. However, there is no Ethernet port. The 1080p webcam (incl. IR sensor and mechanical shutter) fulfills its purpose. The SD card reader achieves average transfer rates, but cards stand out clearly.

Maintenance
The lower housing cover can be easily removed. In addition to the fans and the battery, you have access to the two RAM slots (max. 64 GB) and the two SSD slots (PCIe 5.0). Our test device has a dedicated NPU card with a performance of 32 TOPS in the second SSD slot.

Input devices
The dark gray keyboard offers a two-stage white illumination (incl. ambient light sensor) and a dedicated numeric keypad. The layout is very good, as the arrow keys are also pleasantly large and yet Lenovo does not do without dedicated keys for up/down. The keys offer a travel of 1.5 mm and correspond to the current Lenovo standard, which is also available on the ThinkPads. The overall typing comfort is good. The ClickPad (13.5 x 8 cm/~5.3 x 3.1 in) offers good gliding properties and can be pressed down mechanically in the lower area, although this is acknowledged with a rather loud noise.
Display - IPS with 240 Hz & G-Sync
Lenovo has updated the displays and, in particular, the base model with the WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 16:10) in our test device has received a significant upgrade. The matte IPS panel now supports G-Sync and a frequency of 240 Hz, which once again shows its relationship to the Legion models. The picture quality is very good and even bright surfaces do not appear grainy. The response times are very fast and we were unable to detect any PWM flickering. The brightness can be controlled via a sensor. There was also an improvement in brightness, as Lenovo now states 500 cd/m², which our measurements confirm.

The panel covers both sRGB and P3 and Lenovo offers corresponding color profiles in the Vantage software. In our analysis with the professional CalMAN software, the factory profiles show weaknesses in the grayscale, which we can correct with our calibration. This also makes image editing possible without any problems.

Test conditions
Lenovo offers the usual energy profiles(battery-saving mode, auto, performance), which can be conveniently switched via the Fn+Q key combination. There is also a high performance mode available in the Vantage software, but this does not offer any performance advantage. We carried out the tests in performance mode.

Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX (Arrow Lake) offers a very high CPU performance, but its performance is comparable to its Predecessor with the Core i9-14900HX. Most other competitors with H-series CPUs fall significantly behind.

Mass storage
The ThinkBook offers two fully-fledged M.2 2280 slots, which are already connected via PCIe 5.0. However, the built-in 1 TB SSD from SK Hynix (860 GB free) is a PCIe 4.0 drive, but the transfer rates are good and remain constant even under prolonged load.

Emissions & Energy
Noise emissions
With the energy profiles, you can noticeably influence the fan volume and in everyday tasks you actually always have a very quiet or silent device, especially in Auto mode. Under load, however, it becomes significantly louder and, at just under 52 dB(A) in power mode , too loud to play games without headphones, for example. There were no other electronic noises on the test device.

The sound system (2x subwoofer, 2x tweeter) offers a very good sound and can also hold its own against the excellent multimedia competitors.

Energy consumption
The power consumption in idle mode is lower than Predecessor with the 3.2K display, but there are no surprises under load. We measured a maximum of ~282 watts in the stress test, which then quickly leveled off at 230 watts. The massive 300 watt power supply is therefore sufficiently dimensioned. The ThinkBook can also be charged via USB-C on the go.

Battery life
The battery life was a weak point of the predecessor, but the current model with the WQHD panel performs much better here. In the WLAN test at 150 cd/m², we now determine 10.5 hours and still 7 hours at full brightness, which makes the ThinkBook very competitive overall.
